During WWII we were not buying dolls from Japan!

It's probably older than WWII, souvenier.

What does the insignia on the hat say?

Thanks for the response, and that is what we thought also. It says "US" on the hat but almost looks like that was put on it with marker~

Hello. Hubby here. The "U.S" marking was definitely put on with a paint brush. There is something underneath but at this time we just cannot tell what it is or says. I am thinking they were massed produced in Japan either before that war or after and whomever had a stock here added the U.S. markings and then distributed them in the U.S.? The U.S. was also neutral for the first two years of that war so this also could be a consideration. Any more help would be greatly appreciated. We searched all over the net and have yet to find a photo of these dolls. They are older, that I do know. We would just like to know if they were distributed to children during WWII. Thanks!
