Hoosier Table

I was just given a Hoosier table and was trying to find more information out about it. However, I cannot seem to locate anything online. It is all wood (does not have an enamel top) with a hidden leaf. The legs are straight and there are lines/grooves carved into the apron. It has an art deco feel in my opinion and I was told it was from the 30s. It has just been refinished and had been painted many times but the original color was white I believe. I was hoping someone had some details about the table or perhaps a catalog or photos of some sort to get an idea of when it was made. Really any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I know that this post is a long time ago but the table that is described is exactly like the one that was left in a house I am remodling in PA. cannot find anything online about it. has the metal oval lable, Hoosier New Castle Ind. looks to be painted at one time as well, maybe yellow. Art deco styl with long verticle groves in legs. hinged leaf tucked up under table. hope someone sees this post.

Thank you, Linda, for the knformation and link to the Sellers furniture. my table has a silver metal oval lable that says Hoosier. New Castle, Ind is below the Hoosier name.

The poor table is a bit rough. someone over the years just used screws to keep it together but I think it can be restored. also the top isn’t laying level like the table is twisted a bit from how they used the screws. The little decorative gables in the corners also need some repairs.

Based on your metal label that might not be a table made by Sellers. There was a company actually named Hoosier Manufacturing located in Newcastle. Sellers was also located in Newcastle. Your table might have been made by this company?

Look at that Highboy. Has a meat grinder and two flour chutes. Lots to keep you busy.

    Popular Hoosier Cabinet Manufacturers

As mentioned, most big Hoosier-style cabinet manufacturers were based out of Indiana. These were some of the biggest competitors in the early 1900s:

    Boone Kitchen Cabinet

    Coppes Napanee

    Diamond Kitchen Cabinets

    Hoosier Manufacturing Company

    Ideal

    Kitchen Maid

    McDougall

    Sellers

    Wilson

    Find the Manufacturer's Mark

Antique Hoosier cabinet manufacturers would mark all their products in specific ways with a stamp, on a paper tag, or on a metal tag. If you can find this information, you can easily identify and value your piece.

The maker's mark would be placed somewhere out of sight, so look on the back or bottom of the cabinet and inside the doors.

Some companies really hid their marks, like Hoosier who put an "H" on their door fasteners.

The mark could include the company name, a logo, a date, a patent number, or some combination of these pieces of information.

Compare the cabinet to the vintage ads available on HoosierCabinet.com. These are sorted by manufacturer and include original images of the various models.

Examine the various components of the cabinet to make sure the top and bottom are by the same manufacturer and feature the same wood or metal. It is common to find a cabinet with a mismatched top and bottom, and this greatly decreases the value.

Use a reference book, such as The Hoosier Cabinet in Kitchen History, to look for your model.
