Pricing Discount on Miele

So here we go, I finally decided on purchasing an all Miele kitchen as well as a washer and dryer. Here are the list prices from Miele Canada's website:

Fridge

KF1901 SF 36" Bottom-Mount Fridge/Freezer

Cost: $9900.00

Oven

H4881BP 30" Single Oven

Cost: $4999.00

Speed Oven

H4080BM 24" Convection Microwave

Cost: $3549.00

Induction Cooktop

KM5753 31" Induction Cooktop

Cost: $3499.00

Vent Hood

DA408 30" Décor Wall Hood

Cost: $2399.00

Dishwasher

Incognito G2182 SCSF

Cost: $1849.00

Trim Kit

Trim Kit for H4080BM above a 30" Oven Stainless steel

Cost: $449.00

Washer

W4840

Cost: $2550.00

Dryer

T9800

Cost: $1445.00

Washer and Dryer pedestals

WTS430

Cost: $349.00 + $349.00 = $698.00

Total Cost: $31337.00 + Installation + Taxes - Applicable Rebates

With that being said, we are talking about alot of money here. Now I know most Miele dealers claim they can't play with the price all that much but if I'm investing that kind of money and buying all the appliances at once I expect a significant savings. Please let me know if you have any experience or advice on how I should go about this and how much I can really expect to save. Thanks.

5% tops if you're lucky. Miele is one of those companies that controls the selling price of its products.

What you can get the dealer to do is throw in free extended warranties and possibly the trim kits and pedestals for free. Maybe also get a free microwave, coffee system from another non price fixed company - that sort of stuff. Beyond this you are stuck paying their asking prices.

Good luck with those discounts. Instead, I'd shoot for a ten-year supply of dishwasher tabs and salt and laundry detergent.

Thanks for the advice. With that being said I want to keep the overall purchase to $25000.00 What I'm thinking is that I could go with a Miele lift door on top of the the 30inch oven and have a panasonic microwave hidden behind it instead of the speed oven. As well I could go with an electric cooktop instead of the induction cooktop. Then I would be able to go with a washer and dryer of another brand with pedestals that will come in around $2600.00 Any thoughts on the electric instead of the induction or the lift door with the panasonic microwave. I was thinking the whirlpool 9600 duet steam washer and dryer, any thoughts. Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks.

Electric doesn't really compare with induction, but you can get a cheaper brand. Or gas if possible.

Any reason to go all Miele? That fridge is essentially the same as the Thermador or Bosch with slightly different features (I am not impressed with a wifi fridge!). Lose the wifi and save some money. If you're paneling it, nobody will notice.

Instead of pedestals, see if your cabinet maker can do something for you if you're remodeling or building. Might look nice!

I agree about the speed oven, so expensive and so much redundancy with the big oven which is already costing you a fortune. I also know they are miserable to keep clean. I believe Miele will be coming out with a new easy to clean versions in the future.

Mieleguy - Could you go line by line and say what attracts you to each one of these appliances beyond the brand name? I think that would help people offer alternatives that would suit you. If you read much on this forum you'll realize that folks here tend to be more about picking appliances based on their individual merits rather than choosing one favorite brand and filling their house with it.

Look at a Liebherr refrigerator as they made Miele in Europe for years.

Forget the speed oven and go with Sharp micro.

I would go for induction over electric and try to price it around to see what other brands get good ratings. Miele's will be good but you may not need to pay extra for the brand.

Are you sure that price is right for a single oven? It seems too high. If you check single oven prices online those are around $3200-3600 US. Do you mean a double oven?

I would keep the Miele washer and dryer as they are excellent. They have larger capacity machines now that I would buy in a heartbeat.

I wasv lucky. In my area someone listed a 24 inch convection oven w/broiler feature and a 24 inch gas cooktop on ebay. It was all new and wrapped up. the original owner is combining 2 brand new apartments into one for her living space. She did not need 2 kitchens. I won the auction.

What happened was it cost a small fortune for the 2 pieces but still much less than retail and there is no tax. ny tax 8.75%
It was no bargain but i can live with my decision.

The appliances should be good for the resale value of my condo.

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions.

Now somebody had mentioned in a previous post that they wanted to know what really attracts me to each appliance besides the brand name. Let me explain.

    Fridge:
I looked at a Sub Zero 736 TC as well as the Bosch. I was told by numerous appliance stores to stay far away from the Sub Zero. The Bosch is a nice fridge and even a couple thousand dollars cheaper but the interior I found was not even close to the quality and look of the Miele. I really thought that the Miele fridge looked really special and since I am not panelling any of my appliances, the stainless steel outside with no brand name markings had the cleanest look I have seen.

I am really looking for a clean look with matching handles and as clean as possible appliance fronts. With that being said I chose the dishwasher and oven to match.

Now if anyone can suggest a stainless steel hood or even a cooktop without a brand name marking I would be open to suggestions. I know that on the Miele cooktop as in most cooktops it only says Miele in small letters and the same goes for the hood but I just find that to achieve the look I'm going for I want it all to be Miele. I know it might sound odd to some but I would find it weird mix and matching all the appliances even though a good majority of individuals do it.

Now for the washer and dryer, I agree that there are other options out there and since they are not part of the kitchen I will probably go with a cheaper set in the $3000.00 range.

Somebody had also mentioned that the price of the oven seemed high. I double checked and it is $4999.00 but they are offering a $500.00 rebate I believe.

Thanks once again to everyone and if you have suggestions for a stainless steel hood or electric / induction cooktop with no brand name markings and a clean look let me know.

You are making a minimalist kitchen

If I'm understanding correctly, you were expecting a discount in excess of 20% by buying all Miele?

You might want to shop around for more competitive pricing. As you can see, the price you're quoting for the single is way too high. As noted earlier, that's about what the double oven should cost. BTW, I love the rotisserie feature!

Here is a link that might be useful: miele single oven price comparison

Talk to a dealer--I'm pretty sure they sell for below what's on the website, so that should get you partway there.

Thanks once again for all the suggestions. Keep in mind that all the pricing I stated was in Canadian dollars. Now one comment wondered whether I was expecting to save in excess of 20% for buying all Miele. I don't expect to save that much at all but I do expect to save the tax which is 15% here. I really don't think that is asking too much when buying $25000.00-$30000.00 worth of appliances.

I think a 5-7% discount would be appropriate but asking the dealer to eat 15% is quite a bit. I know Miele was having a sale on the Dishwasher that is a discontinued model. Ask if they have the discontinued Washer and Dryer that run on 220V. That should save you soon money.

    Good luck!

It's been a few years since I got out of the appliance business, but IIRC, Miele was one of the least profitable brands we offered. Given the margins in high-end appliances, or even low-end if you do not do enough volume to buy direct from the manufacturer, 20% is extreme, regardless of the amount of the sale. I would not even consider accepting such an offer, UMRP issues aside. As I said, I do not recall exact figures, but the dealer may not even make 20%. If he does, it's just barely.

What you are asking really is too much to ask. It's not the dealer's fault you are subject to such confiscatory sales tax rates.

On a side note, what reasons were you given to stay far away from Sub-Zero?

When you buy Miele products from Canada, you are not buying from the dealer. You are buying directly from Miele Canada. The dealer is nothing more than a product advisor and order taker. They take your name, address, credit card, etc. and type it into Miele's system. On your credit card bill, it will say Miele and not the store.

Having said that, you probably won't be able to get a discount on the Miele products themselves. However, if you walk into a store, try to ask them for a kickback or free stuff from other brands. After all, you'll be making the store/salesperson a wack of cash, so try to get some of that back.

Ah yes, I forgot they went to that system last year. If that's the case, and Miele is handling all fulfillment and service issues directly, then I can't imagine the dealer is making anymore than 5%. They're surely not making 10%! So the dealer makes what, $1500 - $2000 tops on a thirty grand sale.

    Hi Meileguy,

With the exception of the fridge and venthood, this is the identical package that I purchased (in Ontario) a year ago. There was very little movement in the prices for Miele and that was before they took over and the store did have a bit of flexibility. They made up the discount on the other stuff I bought. I am quite happy with the appliances except the speed oven. Because it is so hard to clean and also becomes quickly soiled if you do any baking/roasting in it, basically I have a $3500 microwave. I also find that because I am only 5'2" that it is awkward to use above the oven. I am always afraid I am going to burn my arms when using it as an oven.I had also purchased the warming drawer and the 3 are in the tower. You are probably not going to have that problem. If I had it to do over I would probably do double ovens and just have a microwave built in a cupboard or drawer. I think that Miele Canada is offering free 10 year warranties for a limited period of time...can't remember the dates

I had our builder reinforce the floor under our second floor laundry room and have had no problems with vibration. I love the induction cooktop, I have the excella dishwasher (a colleague had the igcognito and opened it a couple of times not realizing it was on and water all over hardwood floors-didn't want to risk that).

The only other comment I can make and it won't apply to you as they now do all their own installs. I had the company I purchased from do my installs (the installer installed all of the Mieles before they had their own) as I was having to travel >100 km to the new house and wanted everything installed at once. There was a minor problem with the warming drawer, not related to the install and the Miele service rep spent the whole visit giving me grief and questioning why I hadn't had the stuff installed by Miele.

Anyway...I just wish they had had the chocolate washer and dryer!!

In the US, Miele is offering a $200 rebate for their large format washer & dryer set. The rebate is good until March 1, 2009.

They are coming out with updated versions of the same machines in May or June (info from Miele customer service).

Also, they've dropped the price of the washer & the dryer. I think the price is $200 less for the one & $150 less for the other.

Miele is also coming out with new versions of their ovens. With a side opening door option.

You can call Miele Customer Service & ask about all the upgrades coming out this year.

If you live near a Miele showroom you might have the opportunity to buy floor samples since they'll be updating their showrooms with the new models.

Any word if Miele is coming out with a gas range?

A Miele factory tech told me one would be out soon.
