Is there such a thing as a free standing electric range with an induction top?

There was something about this here recently. There's one that just came out, or is about to come out - something like that. I was all excited until I saw the price tag. Over 8k as I recall. I hope someone with a better memory will post!

Diva de Provence is coming out with an induction range which I believe I read will have a total output of 83000 kW!! Induction on steroids? The oven and broiler sound absolutely amazing and I'm ashamed to admit that if it were in the stores now, I'd be very tempted to get it even though I think the $8500-8900 price tag is obscene.

Anyway, I spoke to our regional Diva distributor about a month ago and he said they had just received US approval and started to actually build the units. They hope to have them out by mid-April. My local dealer says don't hold your breath; these things can take a year longer than they claim.

Smeg also makes an induction range and they just opened an office and showroom in NYC (at least, the showroom was supposed to open in the fall but I don't know if it ever did). I couldn't get any info from them about whether the range would be available in the US.

I finally gave up and opted for a cooktop and wall oven. If you have the money and no time constraints, that Diva range may be worth the wait.

I am going to wait because that is what I want. I saw some photos. It is quite beautiful.

Well I guess I have the time to wait for it to come out, but I'm not so sure I would have the money.LOL

83KW is a pile of current draw off the lines. I would need to rewire my house for that one, and have a power substation next door. I guess it wouldn't be running full out, all burners and the oven maxed very often (never, here *smile*). That's about 400 amps at 220 volts...Maybe 8.3KW? That's *only* about 40 amps at 220 volts.

Interesting. Makes more sense to me if you're building a new house than for a kitchen remodel.

Actually, it was 83000 BTUs so probably a little less than 8.3kW. My mistake. I almost failed electricity and magnetism (physics III) in college and dread when my daughter gets to it this year in her high school course and asks me for help! My guess is the range will need at least 60 amps.

Here is a link that might be useful: Diva Induction Range

Someone in the kitchen forum, suggested, using a wall oven and installing an induction cooktop above the wall oven. This seems a bit more afordable. What do you think?

There have been lots of pictures posted of kitchens with induciton cooktops and an oven underneath. You just have to make sure that the cooktop clearances allow for an oven (not all do) and that the oven you choose will be compatible with the cooktop. I've read that Electrolux has the lowest clearances, but GE and Diva work too. Viking definitely does not. There have been a number of threads with great information on this subject that will pop up if you do a search. The objection that some (including myself) have is that the oven is very low.

About a year or so ago there was talk about a freestanding range w/ induction in the works under the Kenmore label. Someone from Kenmore/Sears mentioned it. Haven't heard anything since but lots of folks would like such a range, esp at a "reasonable" price.

There's a company out of the UK called Falcon that has induction ranges in colors. I have no idea as to cost. Now imagine if those were available in the U.S.!!
