Kitchen Aid Induction Users

Does anyone currently use the Kitchen Aid Induction unit? If so, what are the best features? What issues do you have with your unit? What features do you wish you had?

Thanks (in advance).

I have the 30" KA induction unit. It was not my first choice (wanted the GE Profile), but I was limited by the cut out in my granite and I also needed the beveled edge because I have a pop up downdraft. Now, that being said, I LOVE induction! I have only had the unit since Dec. so I can't speak to reliability.
Best Features: What everyone talks about, speed and control. You truly can melt chocolate without a double boiler. It's a much better slow cooker than my new crock pot. I can get a pot boiling for pasta in no time. It's extremely easy to clean. I put down paper towels when I'm frying.
Issues: I'm not crazy about the layout of the burners. The two 7" burners are together, front to back. If I have a flared frying pan on one, it's crowded to put a pot on the other 7". I can power boost only one burner at a time and if I'm using the 11" burner, I can't power any other.
What I wish: I wish I had planned for induction 3 years ago when we built. I think I would have gotten a 36" with more versatile burners.
I bought induction after using electric for years! I'd NEVER go back to electric. I even love the stainless steel cookware. It's so easy to clean.
I hope this helps with your decision.

Whistle: Thanks for the feedback. What do you have below the induction? If drawers, what are your drawer depths? What do you have in your drawers?

Did you look at any other inductions other than Kitchen Aid? If so, why did you select the KA model?

Weiss, I do have a very short, shallow drawer. It is 12" front to back and 1 and 3/4 inches deep. I keep my silicone hot mats and spoon rests in it. Nothing gets lost! Then under that is just open cabinet. I keep several pans there. DH did install the heat shield and the drawer clears that. The drawer was cut down just for the cook top.
The KA fit in the existing granite opening. That's why I chose it.

@whistle: Thanks for letting me know. We are torn between KA and Bosch.

We have the 30" KA induction. Have been using it for 5-6 months. It's my first induction so I really have nothing to compare it to. DH & I love it.

I bought the KA because it didn't have the metal trim around it and I thought it looked like the sleekest design.

We put in a 3 drawer cabinet underneath as I was hoping to be able to use the top drawer (at least a bit of it) for utensils, etc, however it has a fairly deep 4" heat shield so I can't use the drawer. I wouldn't do that again. Just keep it to 2 deep drawers.

I agree with Whistle about the burner layout to some extent but there's only 2 of us and we couldn't be happier with it.

    good luck!

Hi everyone! I just posted this as a separate question, but I will try it out here too as it is on-topic...

I just had the KICU508BL (30" KitchenAid Induction) cooktop installed in my kitchen. Certain things I really love about it -- very precise temp. control and heats water with amazing speed. It has been really easy to keep clean. I have a question though... not sure if I have a defective cooktop or maybe this is just the way all induction (or KitchenAid induction) works? Here goes:

When on the low/med heat settings (1-6 on the 9 setting scale) I hear a fairly loud click...hum...click...hum... etc. The click comes about every 1-2 seconds. It never goes away. The hum is not a problem for me (it sounds like the fan in the unit) but the click is annoying. In addition, while boiling some water this evening, I noticed that the water would momentarily stop boiling during the click. I am assuming this is maybe the magnets cycling on and off?

I have already had the warranty tech. out... he didn't know anything about induction, but called someone at KitchenAid who eventually declared this "normal."

Not sure if I should keep harrassing KitchenAid... has anyone else had a similar experience?

    Thanks so much!
