What do I put in these boxes?

Our family room/ kitchen area has two decorative boxes that need to be filled with something - but what? I would say our design is transitional. The plant-hangers were there when we moved in. The boxes are about 5' x 3'. Help!

These are ridiculous. What are you supposed to do with them? Eliminate. Put a shelf up there for plates or baskets or vessels.

If you don't want to decorate them with pictures, then just take the wood frames off. You might need to paint the area, so I hope you have the right color.

I don't understand this picture, even if it's upside down. Is this the ceiling?

They are up near the ceiling in the family room with about 20 ' ceilings. The lower ceiling is the kitchen.

They are not wood, but a drywall material. I don't think I can remove them without significant damage.
