My first (tiny) tablescape!

Hi everyone,

Well, here it is. I don't usually do anything on Valentine's Day but you guys got me inspired. That said, this is a TINY (just cocoa and cookies) tablescape and I scrambled to get the cups and the red-and-white plates at our Goodwill store last week. Everything else on the table was purchased at various rummage sales, including the six-setting white Wedgewood (for $3.00!--I came in just as they were closing). So this is my interpretation of a rustic Valentines' Day snack. (It IS a little different!)

hey Mags, your 'woodland' Valentine's setting is different
and I like that. Its so neat to see what folks here come up with, I enjoy every one of the settings!

Your napkin ties are so sweet, and really set the Val theme. Nice job!

    hugs, Karen

A six piece place setting of Wedgewood for $3! Wow, you can't beat that.
I love the cookies ane cocoa theme. Sometimes (much of the time, I think) tiny is best.

The red plates are a nice find. I bet you'll use them a lot more than you think.

Not bad at all for your first Vday table, Magpie!!! Very pretty and cozy with the plaid table runner and napkins (have I mentioned that I love plaid??). Love, love , love your red print plates! And, those Wedgewoods were a great deal . . . lucky you! TFS

Rustic & pine trees...you're calling to me, Magpie! I'm impressed...looks like a fun V-table! Like the ribbon you used for napkin ties ...and the icicyles on the tree in the corner! Still winter on V-day! TFS & looks like you had fun! Jeanne S.

    How nice!!
I love 'out of the box.'
That's one of the great things about being creative.

Glad you dove in and did your first tablescape.
Don't let this be your last.

    Have fun with it!!

Very nice, I like the combo of colors and patterns - they go together very well! Just a hint of Valentine's is very subtle and effective. TFS

Have you planned your next one yet? You know you can't stop at one! ;-)

MP...I like your 'Homespun Woodsy Valentine'...very nice!
First off..I'd love to be sitting at that table in front of those windows..I know that room now, and the setting looks so cozy.
I like how you layered the different patterns of your plates, napkins and the bows...the plaid runner compliments it all, and I LOVE your V Mugs..
Great Great deal on the Wedgewood..that's being in the right place at the right time...they were meant for you..
I'm so glad you put this together...it's lovely.

    Karen,
Thank you. I too enjoy all the different settings, and even if they aren't to my particular taste, I can really appreciate them.

    OA,
Yes, I was lucky on that one. I came into the rummage sale at the last minute and there they were, sitting in a cardboard box. I couldn't believe they were so pretty and Wedgewood, too! The red plates I bought out of desperation but I'm liking them better and better...

    Syble,
Thanks. Cozy is one of the descriptions I was looking for! I have another votive holder similar to that but larger. But I had to "rummage" through my Christmas candleholders to find the clear and red votive cups!

    Lynn,
Of course you like plaid, it's the Scot in you (and me)! Plaid is my favorite pattern and I use it everywhere. And as I mentioned to OA, I'm liking the plates more and more. They're just no-names I fished out of the bin at the Goodwill As-Is Store.

    Party Music,
Glad you too like the plates. I'm trying to make our new house as "lodge-y" as possible (I'm into 'all-out log cabin', but I have to temper that impulse for DH) so I like to make a "woodsy" setting.

    Jeanne,
What a sharp eye you have, to spot the icicles on the tree! They're coming off soon since we (unlike most people) have had a pretty mild winter. Today was sunny with a high of 61...Spring is on the way!

    Milosmom,
Glad you like it. The plate combination was pure serendipity 'cause those were the only Valentine-color plates I could find. Sometimes you get lucky!

    Wanda,
You're right, it's fun. I'm already thinking spring, which I think is much tougher than winter. Can't wait to see everyone's spring ideas.

    Luckygal,
As you might have read, I'm not really a pastels or pink person, so using red and deeper colors is natural for me. Glad you like how it turned out!

Thanks all, for looking and boosting my ego!

    Jane,
Thanks for the compliment! I would take a picture showing our kitchen nook except that we have had to put in a couple of cheap Wal-Mart bookcases by one of the windows to hold our stuff until DH (or somebody) gets me a real bookcase! Also I have one French chair (shown) and one folding chair (!) which I took away for the photo. How nice to do tablescapes that take my mind away from THAT for awhile! The nook will be really nice when I get my dining table (it will seat six) and chairs and a little corner furniture. Possibly a rug under the table.

I bought the Wedgewood years ago when I lived in California, and wasn't even sure I wanted it (I was not into tablescapes at the time) but when I realized what it was and how much it cost, I couldn't resist. Now I'm using it and I love it.

I'm sure I'll improve my tablescaping with the help of all you great gals.
