OK - I went and looked at the specs for the DCS hoods - they've changed a bit since I got mine. First of all, it's the depth that's important, not the height. The 18" high pro-hood has a depth of 25", the 12" Euro-hood has a depth of 23". Both require an 8" duct.

When I got my Euro-hood, it only required a 6" duct which is what I have, but it is only 19" deep. In my experience deeper is better - I do get some grease on the outside of the hood.

Now, there's only a difference of 2" in depth between the 2 hoods so it's not as big a deal. Personally, I would stick with the 25" hood for better coverage - but you really need to decide what works best for you - there's a small trade-off here between form and function.

Thanks for your response. So the two inches in depth could make a slight difference but you didn't mention the height for capture. If there is really no big difference in the height capture I will have DH make templets for the two to see the difference.

I'm not enough of an expert to know if the height makes a difference or not - I do know the width and depth matter but I'm not sure why the height would.
