Possible Ideas

Seeing that some of you are thinking of doing western theme, I thought I'd share an after-rehearsal dinner I did for a friend's son.

I hope some of my ideas will be useful.

Bride/Groom and Matilda.

I used new alum pie pans for plates and mason jars for tea/water.

New canning jars for drinks.

I used the wide-mouth lids for ease of drinking.

Gardening tub with iced down soft drinks.

The guest tables...

I tore the checkered runner because I wanted the ragged edges.

I spread peanuts down the tables.

Tea candles were put in jelly-size canning jars with sand in the bottom.

I set up an area of what an after-rehearsal may have looked like 100 years ago.

The following pics are what the bridge and groom may have gotten as wedding gifts.

    Wanda,
You didn't just contribute ideas. I'd say you contributed a whole party. And what a clever party it was! All of it is so cute, so in keeping with the theme. Just goes to show you don't have to break the bank to put a wonderful, memorable rehearsal dinner. The bride and groom must have loved it (although, Matilda looks a little under the weather).

Thank you for taking the time to contribute to Levi Strauss Week.

Now, I have a question. I can name all the items on the wedding gift table (or at least identify what their functions are) but one. What is it? I'm reaching way back in my memory. Is it some kind of toaster thingie?

Yes, that's exactly what it is.
Can put bread on all four sides.

The groom's mother later told me the groom said the after rehearsal was the most fun of any of the wedding activities.

LOVE it, WRH! Such original ideas for your friend's son! Alot of love & effort went into this after rehearsal dinner! Love all the old goodies for wedding gifts long ago!

We eat off tin plates in our motorhome & I was dreaming of using them last night (while trying to sleep)...and one of the sandwich/soup places I used to frequent (when working) served drinks in Mason jars! So your party reminded me of that! Thanks! Jeanne S.

Very nicely done Wanda! Makes a very unique and interesting decor. I like the peanuts on the table - cute idea! I recently read a blog where they had used Mason jars to hold candles at a wedding reception - they had placed them down the center of the table. Not sure if I saved that link or not.

My DM had many utensils like that (pre-plastic days) and I have to admit we still use a toaster like that when camping without electricity! DH likes to cook a full breakfast on a Coleman stove outdoors and makes toast on one of those. You can still buy them and we've worn out a few over the 4 decades we've camped.

Lots of great inspiration in your decorations - you have quite a collection of western implements! Matilda has awesome horns!

    Great Planning Wanda.
Such creative ideas. I'll bet you got just as much fun
thinking up what to create, as the guests who enjoyed it all. They were really lucky to have you put this together for them. Everything is Outstanding!

I too recognize many of the 'Bridal Gifts'.. that my DM had, and now I own. We use that toaster too for camping.

There was a restaurant in FL called 'The Roadhouse' that served beverages in mason jars, and also kept a bowl of peanuts in the shell, at each table. The Gkids always loved going there and we did too.
Thanks for sharing this with us. I enjoyed
    all your wonderful ideas.

What a fun party you created. Bet everyone had a good time and just loved using the pie tins and mason jars. Many of those "ole timey" implements looked familiar to me too--you gathered up a nice collection and made a wonderful display of them. TFS Luvs

Very cute Wanda ! Poor Matilda must have small children at home .. she's done tore her hair slap out ..lol !
Jane, we have the Roadhouse here in Mobile and they still serve their drinks in mason jars and they still have buckets of peanuts on the tables. The kids love to eat there because they get to throw the peanut shells on the floor..at each other..at other diners
The tin plates were a really cute idea .. seems like I saw some tin plates in the camping section at Wally-World and I have a whole tack room just full of saddles, bridles and blankets.. hmmm .. and I also have some mason jars and a bunch of bandanas to use as napkins. Another thought .. last year when I hosted our family reunion, I went to the feed store and bought several of the metal chick feeders/waterers and filled them with candy corn, jelly beans and gum balls and placed them on the tables. They were a big hit with everyone. I bet that would look cute on a Western syle table too. I've got a bunch of spurs too and I bet I could use them as place-card holders. Fix up some burgers and a big pot of cowboy beans and there you go ! This just might work !

I've never seen anything like this but it's pretty cool. We have alot of the items you used over at our cabin. We still use our toasters like the one OA asked about.

I'm hoping if I have time I can come up with some guns in holsters and spurs, a set of my blue enamelware. It may all be over at the cabin. I love the wheels and it all looks like a fun thing was done.
