My Latest Finds!!

I was all over town on Friday and actually made some good finds. I hit BB&B, thanks to PD's heads-up. The wonderful spiral sun napkin rings that would be perfect with my Talavara dinnerware weren't on sale, but I did find some darling crystal bead ones for only $.99/each. (I also bought a new Matelasse coverlet on sale that might work well in our MBR).

Next I headed over to Tuesday Morning, where I found some pretty cream lace placemats for $2.99/each. They only had 7 and I bought them all. I was really surprised to find some of the Spode Woodlands Fish plates (below pic) that I love at $8.99/each,

but they only had the dinner plates. I need the salad plates to go with my pinecone dinner plates (see pic below):

I'm hoping to check out the other two TM stores this week to see if either of them have any of the salad plates . . . and one more lace placemat.

Finally, I headed to Ross, where I found these wonderful bowls that I bought to go with my new blue & white dishes. They were $2.99 each. I used them last night at dinner, with my new (old) blue linen napkins, new lace placemats and the new crystal bead napkin rings. BTW, my flatware is NOT gold, as it looks in the pics. Must be the flash doing that!

I also found some great salad plates that I thought might work wonderfully with my pinecone plates, but when I got home and tried them out, I found that, at 8 1/2" across, they were much too big (see the pic below where I have one resting on a pinecone dinner plate) I'm disappointed, as the price was great ($2.99 each) and the coloring works wonderfully with my dinner plates. They do look a bit big, though, don't you think ;^P ???

Wow everything is lovely. I love your new placemats. The new bowls are wonderful and they go REALLY well with your plates. Too bad that the new salad plates won't work as well as you'd hoped. I agree that they're a little too large. Oh well, another reason to shop ;) - Gail

Lynn, your new bowls are beautiful and what a great match for your new plates. Your whole place setting is very nice.

It is so much more fun to be "on the hunt" for the perfect salad plate/bowl, etc rather than buying a whole matched set to begin with. Although the salad plates you bought are too big to show off the lovely pinecone border on the dinner plates, I'm sure you will eventually find just what you want - Fall is still a ways off.

Wow Lynn, you made out like a bandit!! I especially love the blue/white bowls. I was 'wandering aimlessly' at the mall with DD on Sat., and of course her idea of shopping is looking for clothes, whereas mine is anything for my home. I told her to go off on her own and we would meet later. I headed off to Macy's not knowing they were having a one-day-sale~did I get lucky!! I found the Fitz and Floyd pattern, Ricamo Trattoria, i've been secrely lusting after for the last year on sale~dinner plates/5.99, salad plates/2.99. I have ivory soup bowls and other serving pieces that will go beautifully, mixed in with a few solid pieces of blue or gold.

    Hey Lynn,

I love your new blue bowls. I thought you would be interested to see how similar they are to my Mom's set of Royal Copenhagen, which she bought probably 45 years ago when our family went to Denmark. I recently did a few searches on the Internet, EBay, etc, and estimated that if I had to replace this coffee set (pot, plates, cups and saucers; and I think a sugar bowl and creamer) it would cost $5,000.

So I'd say $2.99 was a pretty good buy!

Also LOVE LOVE LOVE the spode fish plates. DMIL has some similar but they are game birds. She uses them every Christmas and she sets a lovely table. The fish would really please DH.

Sorry that the salad plates for the pinecone plates were too big, but maybe when you return them, the right ones will be waiting for you.

Those new bowls could not be any better with your blue/white plates. They are just perfect! Like you new placemats and doilies too.

I just love your pinecone plates! I use a lot of pinecone motiffs for my Christmas decorations; I'll have to check out Tuesday Morning. I haven't been there in a long time.

I love your new bowls! So Pretty..
Yes those plates are too big, and take away from the beauty of your pine cone plates...You will find it, don't worry..

Replacements is a last resort....they are extremely high...They email me once a week telling me what they are charging for my kitchen dishes....I think I will buy a guard dog it they are worth so much! LOL

no, no NO~I would never buy off replacements.com either, but I never take pictures of stuff i've bought, so try to refer to a website.

I got them at least for 1/4 of the list price, so i'm a happy camper. ;o)

Pattycakes, why do you not take pictures of stuff you've bought? Sure sounds like you have lovely things, and you know we would love to have you share pics of your treasures here with us. Luvs

Luvs, I guess i'm just too lazy, and don't really know how to download, etc., etc.,....

Well thank you luvs~*I* think I have some nice things. If I started taking pictures you might be sorry you suggested it~believe me, I could get carried away. LOL

I don't know if you read in another thread that a friend and myself are renting a space in an antique mall. I got rid of a lot of things when I left CA, but brought boxes of stuff to TX with me. Not everything is antique, and some things we're re-doing. We're both retired with too much time on our hands, do definitely not looking to make a fortune, just have some fun. ;o)

Patty, trust me, if I can figure out how to download pics to Photobucket and post them here--ANYBODY can do it! I'm not at all tech savy, but Anj over on the Painting forum did step by step instructions for me--and Photobucket really does make it easy I think. The instructions are still there if you want to use them.

I did read where you had said you were doing a space with your friend. I'm sure you will have fun finding things to resell. I have a couple of friends I met when I worked part time at an antiques/collectibles store, and I think they enjoy the "thrill of the hunt" for items to sell as much as they enjoy the money they make! LOL

Kathleen, you're right, Replacements Limited is the place I'd go only if I was desperate for an important piece I couldn't find after a long search. They're definitely not cheap!
Gail, too funny! Yes, and I love the hunt!
DD: yes, that's what I'm hoping for. Perhaps more patterns will turn up then.
Patty cakes: those are so pretty and what a good deal!!
    Betty & Mo, thanks!
VMP: oh my gosh, they do look a lot like my bowls! I'm absolutely floored by the replacement price for yours!! That coffee pot is just exquisite.
Neesie, Yes, check your TM. I did call the other two in Albuquerque and neither had any of the fish plates, in any size. I keep thinking about them and may go back and buy the four dinner plates they had tomorrow while I'm in town. I don't know what it is about these plates, but I do like them a lot. Perhaps it's that they remind me of my childhood growing up in Michigan on the lakes. I hope you find some.
Luvs, thanks! I'm going to take the brown and white flowered plates back tomorrow. I may use the money to buy four of the fish dinner plates ;^P
