Have you recently painted?...There is something that comes out of new paint for about 6 months that causes silver to tarnish.
I have no idea what's in MetAll...but I think a polish that is made just for silver is best for silver....like wrights silver cream.
I also know that unless you wash with soap and rinse well, that that Magic Wadding will leave a dulling film and re tarnish more quickly.
If your silver is in a china closet with glass doors, you can get some no tarnish strips to put inside....or line the shelves with Pacific cloth.

Linda, I discovered pieces of white chalk in my mother's silver [plate] chests, then later heard that was a good anti-tarnish technique. Some I bought 2 years ago was grouped by utensil and wrapped in plastic. Since I haven't used them, they're not tarnished at all. chery-va

White chalk is an "old timey" anti tarnish thing....the strips work better....if your silver is in a chest....that protects it from tarnishing. And silver and silver plate both tarnish!

I keep it all in a open china cabnet, I do have some really beautiful pieces and love having them on display but the constant polishing is getting to be a real chore....lol. Thanks again for all the ideas. We will be moving in the next few months, maybe the silver will get packed a little early,so it will be one less thing to do between now and then.

I have one of those metal plates that you place in a pan of water that removes the tarnish. I can't remember the name however. But I bought it about ten years ago and it is fabulous. I use it for all silver and it's great for intricate jewelry.

It removes tarnish but doesn't polish...so I go back with a polishing cloth or a dab of silver creme to get a high shine.

What I like about the MetAll for Silver and Pewter (Different formula for brass/copper and yet another for alumminum) is it's excellence quickly disolving tarnish and the polish keeps air from the silver longer than any others I've tried. Many methods 'work' but also remove the silver, desasterous for silver plate.

Those plates that work in soapy water to remove the tranish also remove detail that is supposed to be there.....to enhance the design of the silver....and greatly reduce the value of the silver. Don't use it....not those silver dip things that do the same. And if you have even a small bit of base metal showing, the dip will turn it dark.
All silver polishing methods remove a tiny bit of the silver from plated ware.....
Honestly, I have not tried the Met-All....but will seek it out....anything that can make the task of cleaning the copper vent hood over my cook top easier, has to be wonderful!

The plates don't remove the detailing if you take out the silver quick enough. It will still, however, remove the other tarnish very nicely. There are also silver polishing kits that contain silver and add sterling silver back onto the piece as you polish. I have a kit I bought years ago from qvc.

items that don't come in contact with food can be polished and then dipped or lacquered so they dont tarnish. In addition to the silver strips, tailors chalk also prevents tarnish. I keep one in my jewelry box.

Tarnish is caused by sulfur in the air.
