Not many CFM+not much capture area=not much performance.

I forgot to mention that this will be over an induction cooktop... a 30". We do all our grilling outside and I dont' fry foods. I do saute ALOT of veggies and want to start stir frying more.

I've only had recirculating fans via MW so I know anything will seem like a huge improvement to me. Price is a motivator but not the exclusive one. Are you saying a hood for my application should be deeper? Is the 3" extra on either side adequate to make up for depth? How deep are hood typically?

Stir frying demands adequate exhaust flow.
What is the actual filter area? If the filter area is small compared to the area of the hood bottom, it could be noisy and not effective at capturing the greasy exhaust.
Looks like it might be designed with aesthetics as a priority over function.

Well being wider than the cooktop will help, but the lack of depth (height) is a major factor. You need that depth for the exhaust containments to accumulate before being discharged. Stir frying with the inherrent high heat will produce more than the above hood will handle IMO. Now you can offset all of that if you just plain like that hood and are willing to accommodate the issues that arise. I have an "undersized" hood that has some limitations but I can accept the limitations.

I bought this range hood for my 36" Blue Star cooktop
It has worked great , looks much nicer than the picture , and goes well with the Cooktop.

We have used 4 Burners at once with no problem.
Also the price is very good. I'm glad I didn't spend 4 times as much for one .

I find it kind of weird that the Monogram is 22 gauge stainless (340 construction) and the ebay (enjen) brand is 18 gauge (304). I tried to google the difference between 340 and 304 but couldn't find a layman's explanation of the difference. Maybe someone could help me with that. I do know that the lower the gauge; supposedly the better.

I think it looks good in the above picture. Must look great in your kitchen.
