Levi's supper table

This is a few days after Levi's birthday but Mrs. Levi was very busy with the birthday celebrations, it being his 181st birthday. This is his late meal of the day today as he's been busy in his factory making those jeans we all love. And I've been putting my house in order after moving my craft room and DH painting an old buffet/hutch (with the attendant turmoil of everything that had to be removed then replaced). Finally have my table clear of all the stuff that was in the buffet/hutch so I can play.

In reality I have few old rustic things which is odd considering how much I like such things! When I told DH what I was doing he asked if I wanted him to sit on the table since he's old and rustic! Funny man! Anyhow I shopped my house and found a few things.

The oil lamp is one my parents had 'forever', the large bean pot one they bot at the Medalta factory about 40+ years ago which has been used often but not lately, the small cream bean pot I got at a yard sale (no lid) also Medalta, the yellow measuring cup was one DH's father had for many years - probably a give away from that company, the well worn silver pitcher (provenance unknown) from DH's Gran. I used a small handthrown pottery mug for Levi's tea as I'm not sure what would be historic. Pottery candle holder would be similar style to what was used 'back when' and it has a beeswax candle.

The plates are odds and ends I've bot here and there. Never pass up a transferware plate. Table 'linens' are a denim 'runner' that's a new piece from my fabric stash. Placemat is a piece of gingham I ironed into the right size. The pie de résistance napkin is one of the dog's scarves I bot at the dollar store! It *is* clean tho and I even ironed it for Levi! Dog won't mind - she has lots more! The brown pieces are camping tea towels!

The cast iron frypan one of many we've collected over the years and the enamel lid is one I remember my DM using many decades ago. The first cast iron frypan I had was my DGF's but now I don't know which one it is (we have many) as sadly I never marked it. :-( It would be over 100 years old. We have bot many old cast iron pieces at yard sales as DH and I like to cook with them. We only buy those made in Canada and the US and not all are really old. The cast iron scone pan was a yard sale find and I believe it to be old. The milk is still foaming as it's fresh from the cow - or because we don't drink milk and I just mixed it from powdered! LOL

I love the little graniteware pot (back left) which has an aluminum lid that came with it (from a YS) but not original to it. Not sure how old it would be. It stores tealights but we won't tell as I'm not sure of the history of tealights, they may be a modern invention. We'll pretend Mrs. Levi cooked a bit of soup in it! The large enamel teakettle would hold enough water to make lots of tea - or bathe the baby! We use it on our wood stove daily in the winter to increase humidity in our home. Levi's favorite cat is on the chair!

The barnboard frame holds a photo that is typical of the scenery and old cabins still standing in this area. Frame *might* have been made from an old barn, I bot it new from a woodworker. The oil painting of an old cabin was a YS find also. I buy these rustic paintings whenever I find them. This area was on the way to many of the goldrushes so the travelers in those days may have worn the pants that Levi made and some stayed on here and built little cabins like this and worked in logging and ranching.

Hope you've enjoyed seeing Levi's supper table! :-) I've had fun playing!

I swear I posted to this earlier but perhaps the gremlins ate it.

If you just went house shopping, you did very very well.
I love it all , especially the transferware which oddly enough I've yet to see any of in person.
Job well done with your creative side and lol, your DH,a man with a sense of humor is a good one in my book.

Oh, boy! LG, you have lots and lots of cool stuff - plus a great husband and a sweet looking kitty.

I just love these sorts of things too. And I like to set them out and use them whenever possible, although I don't do it nearly as much as I used to. Your barn wood frame got me to thinking that I have one around my house somewhere. I've got to find where I stored it.

The cast iron scone pan is very interesting - art work almost. My mother was a great believer in cast iron cooking, but I've never done much. I've olny used one of her old cast iron frying pans to make pineapple upside down cake - and that's all.

It's fun seeing everyone's goodies, don't you think? But it's dangerous too. Makes me want to hit the yard sales even more.

Thanks for taking the time to gather your treasures and write a little description.

Oh, how fun this is! LG, you have allot of great items there--making me wish I had some old stuff too since many bring back memories of growing up on the farm. We had a wood/coal stove with a tea kettle boiling in the winter too, and only had the cast iron skillets--wonderful for oven to table meals and make the best fried taters! ;o)

The bean pots, oil lamps, and enamelware are all familar items too. It's neat that you have collected and saved so many neat things. Your runner and the picure add just the right touch and the tranferware plates are very pretty. Great job!

luckygal...I so enjoyed spending this evening meal with Levi & hearing about the table decor!

Your table linens are wonderful...from the fabric runner to the "ironed-to-size" placemats (quite inventine!) & dogscarf napkin!

Loved hearing the history of the pcs ... and would enjoy sharing a meal at this table! (EXCEPT!!!...no foamin' powdered milk for this ol' IA gal!)...my dairy farm sis & BIL would be **** well, whatever! LOL! LOL!

So much fun to see your pottery, dishes & enamel pcs, cast iron, etc....love it all! And, ahhh, the barnwood frame, my DH makes them for me & I appreciate yours & alsothe cabin painting. TFS! Jeanne S.

Thanks MM, OA, Luvs, and Jeanne for the nice comments.

Milosmom, I hope you will look for transferware as there are so many patterns and colors it's amazing. I have a few small sets as well as lots of odd pieces. I buy single pieces often as it mixes well.

OA, IKWYM as I am so looking forward to yard sales but since I don't need anything and have no more available storage space I really have to cull soon and buy very selectively.

Luvs, when I was doing this I thot how fun it would be to work in a museum and set up displays of old things.

Jeanne, the table linens had me stumped at first as none of my 'real' linens seemed suitable. I really should make some different things but need to get my craft room finished before I do so. I think I may buy more of the dollar store bandanas for tablesettings then I won't have to use the dog's! :-D We don't use much milk so the powdered works well for making bread, etc. We only buy 'real' milk when we have company altho the powdered must come from someone's dairy! Actually the thot of drinking it makes me gag! :-(

My DH does have a sense of humor, otherwise he couldn't have survived 44 years with me! And vise versa too probably. ;-) I think he was quite amused to see what I was up to today! He said "whatever makes you happy" but in 'man-speak' I think that means he wondered if I should be committed! LOL The cat is a keeper too, he adopted us and we couldn't refuse! He also wondered what I was doing but is too lazy to move from his cushion!

I'll have to clear this 'scape away tomorrow and try something different. I have so many ideas from all of you for tablescapes! I can see this could be a bit addicting! LOL

Wonderful table! You really do have a lot of rustic things. And you put it together so well. I'm so glad that your DH is a keeper. I'm not really a rustic style type person, but what a great post, even the kitty, which I'm allergic to.
