blue and yellow spring 'scape

I did this awhile ago but wasn't inspired by it, and forgot about it until I was reminded by Jeanne's thread. This is the setting that my DH wondered if we were going to use. This tablecloth is a bear to iron, needs dampening and I really dislike ironing. Always wish I had a mangle like Martha! Might like it then. So I seldom use the tablecloth and only for company. As you can see I did not do an A+ job of ironing - maybe a C+. :-)

"Centerpiece" which is off-center as I only set for 2. The green bird looks a bit 'off' here altho there is a green stripe in the cloth.

This pic is so you can see the flowers on the hen's tail. I really only collect roosters altho couldn't resist this hen for $5.00 at a YS. It's a lidded compote I only use for decoration.

Dishes are the Denby set I bot decades ago in Europe. It's a set for 12 with lots of serving pieces. Pottery wine glasses are handthrown pottery I sold in my store. They are not an exact match but blend well enough with the dishes. Silver plated flatware is my $5 YS set "Reflection" 1847 Rogers.

Gold glass bowl is from a YS of course and looks like Depression glass altho could be just a 70's thing. I like it tho and the color goes with a real Depression glass plate I have so I often use them together in vignettes. Little cloche is a cheese cover.

Just a simple tablescape but really the sort of thing I do most often as I seldom use chargers or fuss too much.

The hen is a wonderful piece. I do like the tablecloth, but I know what you mean about ironing. I slowly threw out all the tablecloths that required a heavy hand when ironing. Just couldn't take standing at the ironing board that long. I like the yellow accents.

Your tablescape isn't simple. It's tailored, I'd say.

    I really really like it!
The chicken is just lovely, she stands out beautifully.
I love the plates and the tablecloth but I sympathize with the ironing process and rarely do it myself unless we're having guests.
    Nicely done!

    I'm allergic to ironing. LOL.
That hen is WONDERFUL. I also just have roosters, but would have brought her home in a heartbeat. Especially as I have two blue and white roosters who'd love her!
You did a pretty Spring setting, the blue and yellow look so fresh and welcoming.

    LG,

Nice job on your table and I think the colors are wonderful. The hen and your dishes are both wonderful. Love how the candles glow and the yellow dome with seeds looks great.

Sorry your tablecloth is a pain to iron. I think I may have bought one like it for Easter. Thanks for the heads up, I may press it and not wash it before Easter. I'm sure I will need to afterwards so we'll see.

Oh this is so pretty, luckygal..the forsynthia branch looks so Springy! The dinnerware & those pottery wine glasses are my fav! But that hen is something to "crow" about (for a rooster, I mean!) glad you showed the tail feathers!...quite original!

I'm glad you shared this t'scape...Spring colors & garden seeds, too! Love it! from one "recliner diner" to another!" Jeanne S.

Have always loved blues & yellows together, something very soothing about those colors together.

That hen was a "must have" seeing so much of the delft blue in items this year.

The Easter tablecloth I let my grandaughter use this year, is the same type & round & OH MY, it seemed like it went on forever when I was irnoning it for her!!

Like your dishes too, really pretty!

That is so pretty, I don't usually do chickens and roosters, but that one is exceptional. I see the green in the tablecloth that matches the bird and I don't always iron my tablecloths A+ either. I love, love, love the dishes and the yellow really makes it Springy looking.

OA, MM, Karen, Punk, Jeanne, Yachter, and Syble - thanks for all the nice comments. Looks like we all have the same issues with ironing! Years ago I used to send my linen cloths to the laundry but now I use as little as possible that needs ironing. Mostly I only use lace or poly ones and placemats!

I think I really need to do even more spring decorating as we've had some snow overnight and now everything is white again! Only about ½" but looks sooo not spring-like outdoors today.

No way you could pass up that pretty chicken dish and what a great price! She is so pretty, and I love that they did the flowers on the back too. Those plates are so neat, such a soothing shade of blue and I love those pottery glasses. Really like the silverware too. Lovely table and perfect for Spring. Luvs

LG, I'm glad you posted this! Even though you might not have felt "inspired" at the time, it is very inspiring for me! Love the blue and yellow and what a beautiful hen! The Denby dishes are beautiful and match so well with the pottery wine glasses! Very pretty table!

I am very jealous of the chicken. I LOVE IT. Bravo on your efforts ironing. I admit that the only time linens get ironed at my house is if we are having a shower or party for other people. My friends know there are a few things I don't do...ironing and floors. I might be inspired by people like you though!

Thanks Luvs, DD, and HG! I do appreciate your kind remarks. Glad you all like my hen, she was one of my first finds years ago and decorates various areas in my house.

The hen is so beautiful..I like the blues!
I like the tablecloth too...I usally stretch mine out on the table to smooth out the wrinkles while still very damp..and when it dries, run the iron over it.
I wouldn't have noticed your wrinkles!
Your Denby dishes are lovely, and I love the wring of forsythia..ours won't bloom for a month, but I cut some to bring in and force!
    Very pretty table..

Thanks Kathleen, especially for saying you didn't see the wrinkles! :-) I ended up using a pressing cloth this time but really should have dampened the tablecloth properly. My DM used to dampen everything and leave in the frig until she ironed. I just pretend to like wrinkles! LOL

You are so lucky to have real forsythia in your garden, it's a fav of mine but too cold for it here. I have to use the faux.
