Some Easter things.

Not sure if these are staying where they are but found this darling green bunny and the small ones at Hobby Lobby today. They also had a cabbage bowl, with a bunny holding it, I'm going back tomorrow to another one as they have all their ceramic dishes, glass etc. 50% off, but they didn't have the one display plate I wanted in green. I'm heading out tomorrow to two other Hobby Lobbys. Oh, if you think the wall behind the green bunny isn't finished, it is, I used Paper Illusions & didn't want a distinct break or line between the kitchen & diningroom, so I gradually went from kitchen to diningroom with the wallpaper.

Yachter, First of all, I love the Paper Illusions. I've seen something similiar before, but your's is much nicer. Can you tell me something about it or can I just google "Paper Illusions"? I would love to see a pic of one of your dining room walls.

I love your bunnies, but the green bunny especially. We don't have a HL here. And your mantle is very pretty. What do you have in the large goblet? It's very sparkley (Is that even a word? LOL) Your arrangement looks very pretty for spring. I hope you get lucky at the other HLs tomorrow. Thanks for sharing with us.

sandi, the goblet has clear sparkly easter grass in it with small eggs that are also done in some kind of sparkle. Wanted bigger ones but couldn't find them so I used the grass to fill in.

The Paper Illusions has very simple directions on the box; just start tearing & put on the wall! Oh yes!! My DH & I tore paper & put it up for almost 5 hours. It's the tearing & figuring where to put the small pieces that takes the longest, but the best thing is NO MEASURING, not even at the ceiling. It tells you to start off with a large piece, I think like 8 x 10 inches, then we just tore a lot of them that size & started putting them up, sort of putting them corner to corner, side to side, while you're doing it it looks like "uh oh, what did I do to my wall?" but after it's done it's really nice. Anyway, it comes in different shades also, can't even remember which this one was, I know I thought I wanted champaign, but Lowes was out of it & this was the closest in shade. You tear and the straight edges of the wallpaper you use at the ceiling & also by a window or doorway, it was super simple. That wall of our kitchen flows right into the diningroom & I didn't want to do the wall all white like the kitchen but also didn't want an exact break to break up the wall or the rooms, since that is how it was before we remodeled our kitchen last Nov. So, after we had it all up, I started looking at it & decided after DH went to bed to have some fun & with the scraps I had left, I went into the kitchen with it. If you can see it all together, both rooms it looks fine, but in a picture if you only see the dining room or the kitchen then it looks odd, like I ran out of paper & forgot to finish!! LOL

Anyway, I'll see if I can find the pictures of it for you.

Yachter, Thank you for the info on the Paper Illusions. You did a fantastic job on the wall going from the dining room into the kitchen. I'm going to Lowes this weekend and am going to check it out.

Sandi, I took several pictures, it's hard to get the colors right with the flash at nite, but here are a few, the colors are pretty close to true in the first pictures with the green bunny. Also, if you're going to Lowes, just to let you know, it took one full roll to do just that one wall. I have a 4 x 5 inch scarp piece left, that is all.

Yachter, Thank you so much for taking the pictures for me. I love your dining room and kitchen and love the Paper Illusions on your wall. It looks wonderful and the transition from the dining room to the kitchen is very unusual and works very well. DH is asleep, but I sure want him to see the pics when he comes home from work tomorrow. I'm sure it's not nearly as easy as it looks, but I think it would be fun.

Yachter, your bunnies look so cute. Glad you had such good luck at Hobby Lobby. None of those here in Ca. either, but I sure wish there were. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you will have good luck tomorrow.

You have a beautiful home. Know you must really enjoy it. Is it Tam or Labmomma who has the paper illusion wall? Seems like it was someone on here. Very pretty effect.

Luvs, I think it was Tam who answered my questions about the Paper Illusions. When we remodeled our kitchen, we gutted it completely & the wallpaper I had on the diningroom wall had to be replaced. I saw (I think Tams) & thought it was so neat, it really is neat to see in person. Our home is a 60's ranch, it's nothing special, I'm just glad the kids are thru college & married off so we can start doing for ourselves & remodeling our home (FINALLY!) Now we have baby gates for the dogs! LOL

Sandi, it is easy to put up once you get going, I about freaked when we put up the first few pieces, I thought we really messed up.. If you get it & have any questions I'll be glad to answer them. You just start putting up large pieces here & there, then all the places there isn't anything once you get all the large ones up, you start filling in with smaller pieces, til it's done, it looks kind of strange, but it will turn out beautiful, we had no experience with it at all. I just agree with the directions, tear all big pieces at first & then you will have scraps to fill in, you don't want straight lines in the middle only on the edges by ceiling or door/window frames, so you will want to tear all the big pieces so they have ragged edges & this will give you the scraps to fill in with.

Thanks Yachter. I'm sure I'll have questions for you when we get into it. I haven't seen Tam's pics and didn't realize she had done it also. Tam, where's your pics please?

Very nice displays. You have a lovely home.

yachter...nice job on the easter decorations...I really like the larger bunny on your kitchen counter.
You also did a great job on the Paper Illusions.
I told you that you could do it...wasn't it fun?

Sandi I have paper illusions on all the walls in my diningroom and in my office...they are both different colors...I forgot the names though...the diningroom is more a marble look while the office has alot of antique gold running through it...I tried to take pictures but with the flash and weird light the colors are just not showing up how they are in real life...in my old home my livingroom was bronze colored paper illusions...alot darker then what I have in my home now it was very dramatic looking...:)

Tamgypsy, Aah, I remember your dining room wall now. I didn't know it was the Paper Illusions. It is gorgeous. And so are your office walls. You and Yachter have both done beautiful jobs using the paper. Thank you for posting your pics for us.

Tam, I agree, it's really difficult to get colors & patterns to show up true with a camera & the flash. I played around with options to correct it, but it didn't help much. I also forgot the color of mine, think it's sand something (?) but it has silver splotches thru it.

I was afraid of any white edges being left when I tore the paper, but it can't be avoided & it blends in perfectly.

I'm so thankful you posted yours or I would have never known about it.

Thanks all, but our home is "modest" but paid for! LOL

The displays, well I'm not sure & I'm trying but nothing I do looks like Judiths!!!! Grrrrr!

Question to all: On that wall in my diningroom to the left of the French doors, what would you suggest I put there? I've been looking since we finished it & can't decide. I have the bakers rack on the right side, but it looks out of balance to the left. I looked at clocks & see that Tam has one on her wall, so lefts hear your ideas! I'm stuck on this one! Or should I leave it alone????

Yachter, I'm sure we all remember one special dish our mothers or grandmothers cooked that no matter how hard we tried we just never felt ours was as good. I think it's the same thing when we see a display and try to "copy" it in our own take. We just don't feel it's as pretty, but other people look and think we've done great. Just something to think about.

I know others on here will be able to help you better, but I could see something in a black metal hanging on the wall...maybe sconces? Tam's clock is very pretty also. Be sure to let us know what you decide.

yachter...I am probably not the one to give advice on wall arrangments...I really struggle in that department myself...especially in my diningroom...
But here are some ideas...as sandi suggested the metal scroll wall hangings would work...or if you wanted to display a collection of something on the bakers rack maybe some art work that carries the color of the collection to the other wall would work...are you planning on any wndow treatments for that glass door?...that may eliminate the need to put something on that wall at all depending on how you'd use a window treatment...

I also think I can not get my tables to look as good as judith's...but I noticed I am getting better...I have to keep some of the rules Judith told me in mind...maybe someday I won't have to think about it so hard....LOL
arange in 'odd' numbers (3, 5, 7 etc)...carry the color througout...don't line up items...use different levels...raising one item can give it more importance...I am sure Judith has many more of these tips...they have helped me a whole lot...:)

Tam & Sandi, that is what I've been looking at, the wrought iron scroll pieces. Glad you both suggested it, actually Hobby Lobby has a clock that is in scroll work, the scroll work is quite large though & I'm not sure that it wouldn't overwhelm that wall, but I'll keep looking now that you both are on the same wave length as I was.

No, Tam, that is a french door leading to our sunroom ( year round, not a seasonal room) and we use it alot, also let the dogs out the sunroom door so any treatment on that would get in the way, plus with grandkids toys out there it wouldn't work, they are in & out of there all the time.
I had a hanging wine holder in wrought iron hanging just to the right side of the bakers rack, oldest grandson (10) was here with his friend, the friend crashed into it, wine bottles all over the floor broken & he even hit it so hard it pulled it right out of the wall, so NO with the kids here so much that doorway is always used.

I showed my hubby your clock, Tam & I had told him about the one at HL and he wasn't sure but after seeing yours, he said he thought that maybe my idea was OK! (snicker)

    yachter...
I just thought I share a tip Judithva gave me...take a picture of the space (bakersrack, doorway and empty wall) and print it out...use pictures of different items (clock, scrollwork, sconces) to cut out and lay on the original. This way you get to'play' with the look without buying something that may not work and you won't put holes in the wall until you are happy with the look.
I did this recently on a couple of my walls when I was trying to decide on a layout for the wall arrangment...it beats putting 30 holes in the wall until you're happy with the look...lol

Yachter, I have seen several scroll work clocks online recently. They seem to be very popular. Sorry to hear about your wine rack and wines. Boys (and I guess girls also) can be so rough. Did you have the rack attached with toggle bolts? I think it might look really nice to the left of the doors if it would be safe there.

Yachter, you have some very nice things. You are off to a good start, getting the knack of accessorizing takes some practice, believe me I am still practicing! Sometimes I will start out with a particular "vision" and it will turn out to be totally differently. I really have to "play" around with my items, often what I thought would look well, ends up not "doing it for me" then I will roam the house looking for a different item that will work, if I can't find what I want then I will go shoping for that particular thing in mind. Usually it will be that I need something of better height or needing more of a certain color to "carry the theme thru the arrangement, or I am in need of a certain shape.

What Tam had posted about my suggestion of doing photocopying and cutting and pasting into a new sheet of paper really helps. It is a suggestion of what I tell anyone that asks, it still helps me to this day if I am up against a more challenging look, or if I am starting from scratch, I really do need visuals to make it easier for me.

Plus taking a picture of the finished look helps me to really take a more critical look of what I have just done, then I fine tune it a bit more.

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but really and sincerely the book by Christy Carter on Accessorizing is excellent, well worth the buy, I wish I had found it earlier in my struggles, but I still find it very useful.

Also, when I find a look by another person or picture, I will "take it apart" in my head and on paper (I make lots of lists) and anaylize it to understand why it works. Alot of times you can simpley just copy their look with your SIMILAR items, just copy the correct heights, shapes of things and similar items and you will be on your way to acheiving your look, personal to your home. HTH
