I agree with you Writersblock, that many of the faux marble tiles do have strong patterning. My DD like the more understated look. We did have a sample from Florida Tile Gallant Carrara that was also more subtle. We preferred the sizes of the Daltile. I believe the Gallant does have more trim pieces like listello, and chair rail so if you need that kind of trim, check out Florida Tile.

You are correct Enduring, the extension over the toilet is called a banjo. It is only 8.5" deep but every inch counts in a small bathroom.

My DD and her DH are both very appreciative of the work I did so it makes it all worth it. Plus, I am so glad the my first grand baby has a nice tub to take baths in:

Which Kohler tub was it? And how how are the sides? I am helping my sister, and she was worried about getting a tub too deep to bathe babies in. (I am trying to convince her to get something higher than her present 14" deep tub).

Raehelen, the tub they got is the Archer. Theirs is the 32x60 Alcove tub. I believe a 30 inch wide model is available now too. According to their website it has a "Comfort Depth® design offers a convenient 19-inch step-over height while retaining the same depth as a standard 21-inch bath."

My daughter says its actually easier to bathe the baby in this new tub because she can lean on the sides of the tub now, which she couldn't do with the extremely low tub she had before. She also says the higher sides contain the splashes better and her baby loves to splash.

My daughter also said because the back of the tub has a curved slant, it is comfortable for her to relax in. She likes loves increased water depth.

I love that tile. It's what is currently in our hall bathroom. However, we fell in love with a glass accent tile that means we're changing the color to Daltile's Crema Marfil. (white was just to harsh against the cream colored glass)

I do have a question about the toiletry shelves: What are they made of? I really like the clean line look.

The wall color is not quite as dark as it looks in the pictures. The kids did not want the room to look too white. Even though the wall color is fairly dark, the solar tube makes the room very bright. Most days you don't even need to turn on the lights.

I do like the way the tile guy made sure the veins flowed from one tile to the next.

The toiletry shelves were made from the tiles. The tiler cut 2 corners for each shelf and then adhered them together with the thin set/mortar. He notched out the wall tiles so that he could securely attach the shelves.

Oh, I can't see your photos. What a great idea to use large format tiles - the practicality of that really appeals to me!

I agree with you that large tiles are practical. I think the space actually looks bigger with the large tiles, especially the floor. Larger tiles mean less grout lines to keep clean and that's a good thing.

It's funny how you hear so many rules about this. One tile "expert" in a store *insisted* that I should have small tiles in my tiny bathroom. But he didn't convince me, or look like the kind of guy who would scrub the grout either!

Hey Badgergal! I'm planning on stealing almost this entire look for my bathroom reno. Both my boys and I love it, so thankfully we all agree on something! I'm hoping I can get a 60" tub into my small space, since that seems to be the only size available!

MGMum, I will be going to my daughter's house tomorrow so I will check the paint can for the color name and brand. I do know that the cabinet color was called pearl. The cabinets are Fieldstone. The pearl color is actually in their white/ off white group of colors but it is definitely a light gray. We had some trouble finding cabinets that came in the right shade of light gray because we didn't want green or blue under tones. Dura Supreme Cabinets also had a couple good light gray colors. I think the two we liked were called Zinc and Silver Mist.
My daughter knew she didn't want white countertops so that drove her decision to go with the light cabinets and dark counter. She was lucky to get a remnant of Hanstone's Black Coral for the countertop. It's great because it is not a shiny black so it doesn't show water spots.
Here was her sample board. I can't make out the paint color name though. Will let you know tomorrow.

Thank you for reminding me how much I completely adore this bathroom! I may have another couple of bathrooms (possible rental) on the horizon after the Starting From Dirt Basement Bathroom is finally done (soon, so soon), and I know I'm going to be looking at this marblelain tile!!! Love the big format.

MGMum, the color used in my daughters bathroom was Glidden's Seal Gray but we had it made with Kennsington Clark paint from Ace Hardware.

I'll be replacing a pedestal with a little cabinet from Ikea if I can get it ordered. They are in short supply now. I just need a place to put some supplies! My bathroom is TINY! You guys really did a great job with this, so I hope you don't mind my using it for inspiration. :)

If you don't mind me asking, how much was the cabinetry? We have a similar cabinet layout, and are looking for affordable cabinets. Thanks!

Firsthome, the cabinets that we used were Fieldstone. The salesperson told me that the Fieldstone cabinets were about 30% more than some of the other cabinets she carried. Unfortunately we couldn't find that light grey color in the less expensive cabinets. Also, tall linen cabinets are a bit pricey. I don't recall the exact price but it was almost twice as much as the sink base. The linen cabinet is 18x21x84. The sink base is 27x21x34. The two items with filler, crown, toe kick, shoe molding and delivery included were $1,750.
If you are not looking for a specific color like we were, you should be able to find cabinets for less than what we spent (depending on were you live).
My daughter loves having that tall cabinet. Her house has a serious lack closet/storage space.

Hi, I love the bathroom, great job badgergal! I have a question about the tile. I got a sample of this from daltile and my sample had quiet a few golden veins mixed in with the gray veining. In your pics I don't see this at all. While I think the sample is pretty, the golden color really doesn't match my accent tile as well. Do you see this in this bathroom tile? Perhaps I should get another sample.

cdpettette, there is very little golden-brown veining in the tiles. I know we had 3 (maybe it was 4 ) full size tiles that we brought home as samples. There is a little of the gold-brown in some but not most of the tiles. It really presents itself a grey and white like it does in the pictures above. I will be at my daughter's house tomorrow and will take some close up pictures of any tiles with the gold color in them and post them on here for you to see.

Are your sample tiles the Florentine Series? I know that Home Depot carried some Daltile ceramic tiles that looked like mable but they are not the same as the Florentine Carrara porcelain tiles that my daughter used.

How do the white tiles look IRL with the white background of the large florentine tile? I think the mosaic is very nice.

cdpettiete, I just checked the tiles in my DD's bathroom and honestly you have to look closely for the the gold veins. It appears to me that there are 6 different patterns/variations of the tiles and if you flip them around you get 6 more. Your sample seems to be the same as this tile in my DD's room.

I counted only 5 of this pattern on the tub walls and from a distance you barely notice the gold.

Most of the tiles have no gold in them at all or a much smaller amount than your sample. I really don't think you have to worry about the gold veins.

I like the mosaic you picked out and think it will be a nice focal point running vertically. As enduring mentioned though, check the small white tiles in the mix to make sure the undertone of them is good with the background of the large tiles. On my screen the small white tiles appear to have a yellow undertone. In real life they might be just fine with the wall tiles in your bathroom, only you can be the judge of that in your room. I have noticed that big tiles appear to have a white background until you see them next to bright white like my daughter's woodwork, then you see how the background is more grey.

Are you planning on using the matte or the gloss finish tiles. My DD's wall and floor tiles are the matte finish. To me the shiny tiles look quite different from the matte finish. We preferred to have the floor and walls look the same so we didn't put the use shiny ones on the wall.

Thanks ya'll! The white tiles In the accent are definitely not a bright white. But not yellow. They are a limestone which is what I Am leaning towards for shower floor. I have one other tile from daltile I liked (Invoke in sheer glow) but my designer does not like it with the carrara countertops I'm doing. What do ya'll think...

Here's the bathroom run down, wait.... am I hijacking hit his thread? Should I be saying a new one? I have never posted before so I hope I'm not!

Carrara countertops, accent tile will also be the backsplash behind vanities. black walnut vanities, 12x24 tile in shower running vertically with accent stripe running vertically. Will most likely use same tile that I use for shower walls on bath floors but possibly the 24x24. If I go with the florentine Carrara I was thinking matte, I have not seen the polished.

I do say I like Option 1 elements best. I have seen the Sheer Glow in the store and have fallen in love with it, I was picturing using it in my daughters bath, of which I was considering marble counter. Here the carrara looks so much more cool gray compared to the sheer glow which looks more tan in the photo. IRL it looked just a pretty off-white to me.

Happyallison, that sheer glow tile is really gorgeous! In store I thought it was very ivory/tan, but now that the sample is home it still has a lot of gray to it. A very greige taupe tone tile for sure. I love the shimmer it has. I may have been trying to force it to go because I love it so much. Lol. There's another color called mystic way that matches my accent tile perfectly, but I'm using so much gray in my house that I'd really like to keep floor tile more neutral and light. Thanks for weighing in!

Cdpettiette, it would be best to repost some of this project into a new thread then you get responses to your project. I don't think anyone minds that you are on your project on this thread, but it will be difficult to follow in an effiecent way.

what grout did you use for the bath area and for the floor?

I wonder if there is a reason the bathtub spout and valve control look a little off center of the tile? Is it just the angle of the camera? or was there another reason--I know that plumbing can't always be in location for the best design...

Sorry, I don't know off hand what the grout is. It is my daughters bathroom and I can see if the contractor left some grout at their house when I go there tomorrow to watch my granddaughter and let you know.

I do know that the shower valve and tub spout are not off center in the tile so it is just the angle of the picture. The contractor who was also the tile man was an absolute perfectionist and wouldn't allow anything to be "off". He has since done my son's bathroom and I will be using him in the future for my hall bath remodel. I wish everyone could have a contractor like him.

Great bath remodel. I'm glad it came around again. I absolutely love the tiles. I haven't seen them in my local HD, our loss.

happyallison, the Fieldstone cabinets are a very light grey, no tan undertone in them. The wood is maple and the color is called Pearl. There is no glaze on the cabinets. The Pearl color is actually found in there white/off white group of colors.

I bought the cabinets at a local flooring/tile store that also carries a few lines of cabinets. Fieldstone's website does have a deal locator tab.
