OT ...bad day

Fred had a heart attack, while playing golf, this morning, and is at the Heart Institute.

He seems to be doing ok tonight. They tried to break the blockage loose threading a wire and stint up thru his groin. Spent over an hour in the "Cath Lab" where they hoped to break it loose. But apparently the blockage is in a place they can't get to this way. So they have him on nitroglycerine and blood thinners tonight. They are hopeful that the blood thinners might work on the blockage as it's not very big. However if it doesn't work, he'll need by-pass surgery.

I just got home. He ate a bit , and other than his back hurting from having to lay flat so long, he seems to feel ok. He wants to come home tomorrow......

yeah, right. Jeeez. Hopefully if the blood thinners work, then he can come home Wed.

I'm trying to keep only positive thoughts that they will.

hugs, K

Oh Karen, how upsetting for you and your DH! I hope the blood thinners work and he can avoid the surgery. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Oh, Karen- Keep us posted, that's rotten.

It sounds like he's getting the care he needs, though, so I'm sure he'll be home in no time.

Will be thinking of you both,

Karen, I just went through this with my husband so I really feel for you. Hopefully, they will be able to correct the problem without surgery. My DH had to have a quadruple bypass but it is amazing how quickly they turn around afterwards, only 5 days in the hospital and he is able to walk around and probably could do everything by himself but he likes having me make a tray for his meals, help wash his back, etc. The doctors can do wonderful things now and by pass surgery seems to be very common. I hope everything works out, please keep us posted and you both will be in our prayers.

Oh Karen, I'm so sorry you are going through this. I've already prayed for a quick recovery, and will continue to pray. This web is a blessing to us all that we can share one another's burdens and lift each other up in prayer and encouragement. Many hugs back at you.

Karen, when it rains it pours, it seems. I'm so sorry to hear this, you just had good news about Jason.

Your family is in my prayers! You take care of you too, get your rest, the dr's will do their part, but you have to take care of you too!!!

    Karen,
So sorry you are going through this! Remember to take care of yourself too!
I am glad he is being cared for before it got worse!!! I sure hope there are many better days ahead for you both!

    Hi Karen,
A long time ago a good friend told me that God doesn't speak English, he speaks "People"...like the Doctors that are taking care of your DH right now, and the nurses that are keeping a close watch for any changes, and your family that are by your side tonight, and your friends that are praying that everything goes well and your all home again very soon...please know that you and your family will be in my prayers tonight and I hope you get some good medical news tomorrow.
    Hugs,
    Kathie

Good News! Looks like the prayers are working again for my family!
The tests this morning were good, and it looks like the blood thinner has broken up the blockage. They will probably let him come home tomorrow, after checking again to be sure clot is gone.
thank you for all the good thoughts and prayers.
    hugs, Karen

That's great news Karen, so glad he won't have to have the surgery. Try to get some rest, okay? Luvs

I am so happy for you Karen, you needed some good news. Now, like Luvs said, get some rest, you deserve it.

That is good news! Thanks be to God! Hope your DH is on the road to recovery now. Are you up for playing the "nurse"? Make sure you take care of yourself too.

Kathie, I like your thoughts on God working through people - very true!

DD, I won't be playing nurse. If the blockage is gone, then he'll be right back on the golf course this weekend I'm sure. LOL. Unless the doctor forbids it of course.

PF, I was thinking of you when I was at the hospital before we really knew what was going to happen. And was hanging on to the things you said about the new procedures for bypasses. You made me feel a lot a better if Fred were to need one. Thank you.

Mary Ruth, no rest for the weary I'm afraid.
Now I have to get thru doc appt with my Dad this afternoon, who's 84 and lives with me. Heart disease and kidney disease. He had some tests done last week, has an aortic aneurysm and they want to be sure it hasn't gotten any larger. Plus some sort of doppler test on his legs as he's barely able to walk from bedroom to kitchen. He's really not a good candidate for any surgery, so I am praying they won't say he needs it.
Seems like one worry after another around here lately.

Kathie, I ran across this saying today and it sort of echoes what you said...
"Friends are God's way of taking care of us".

    hugs to all of you,
    Karen

    Oh that IS good news.

Um... try to keep the man off the golf course for ONE weekend mebbe. :)

Karen, isn't it funny about golfers. Mine golfs at least 4 days a week and after having his chest cut open he is more worried about his golf game than anything else. Went to the doctor yesterday and he said DH is doing great - but to stay off the course for another 6 weeks!! DH was upset about that. Although he didn't complain about not being able to drive - he likes being that back seat driver, all of a sudden it is like I have never driven before and he needs to tell me how to do it. I just laugh now but what am I going to do with him for the next six weekends????

PF, you might have to leave home if the doc said keep your DH off the course for 6 wks. Good luck!

Fred is home! NO restrictions other than not to lift anything heavy for 6 wks. Doc said he could go back to playing golf whenever he wanted.
He was given prescriptions for two blood thinners, high cholestrerol, and high blood pressure tho. He went from no meds needed to 4 a day. Check up with doc in about 10 days.

My dad's appt, was another matter. Heart doc said no surgery on either blocked leg arteries or the aortic aneurysm. It would throw him into kidney failure and dialysis would be required. He told Dad just to enjoy life and do whatever he felt he could. The doc told me the aneurysm could burst tomorrow, or next year, but said its not a "bad way to go, its fast". I guess that's good, I don't want my dad laying in hospital and slowly dying like my Mom did over a 6 wk period. I really hate hospitals now.
Thank you so very much for all the thoughts and prayers.
    hugs, Karen

Goodness Karen, you sure have had your share of worries lately, but glad your husband is home and they did not have to do surgery. I am waiting to hear from a friend that has a blockage and I am hoping they can treat it in the same way- without surgery.

Sorry to hear about your dad also! I guess that we sure need to enjoy life and need to tell our loved ones at every chance we get just how much they mean to us! My Mom went fast and I am so thankful (she was 96) that she didn't suffer with an extended illness.

    Take care.....Mary

Karen - I've been MIA, good to hear everthing is working in your husbands favor.

I really like & appreciate how your dad's DR is treating him and his honesty to you. I lost both parent's very fast, as they aged I didn't have blinders on and it's never easy when it does happen, but I'm so thankful they didn't have to linger and suffer too.

Karen, I am late too, I did see your message and have been praying. I am glad dh is doing better, and my prayers for your dad. And you too, more worries!

PF, glad your dh is doing well too. And I know what you mean. My dh had a stroke at 53, and has never been able to work, or ski, or run, or do any of the things he loved to do since/ Life changes drastically for sure... It is very frustrating for them, and not much fun for us either..

    Karen,

I have not been here for a few days and today while logging in the forum, I read this topic and learn what happened to your DH.

I hope he will return very quickly because if physically, the news is good, morally, it has surely been afraid - as you were too.

As Mary wrote, you've already had a lot of worries and it's time for you to rest a bit.

I'm so glad to hear that your hubby is home. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. My husband is a golfer too, so I know that your DH is anxious to get back out on the course!

Karen, I am so sorry to hear that you have been going thru all of this, it is hard enough with 1 ill person, but 2 loved ones! I am happy to hear that your hubby is doing so well. And, I have to echo Jim's post, it is good they were honest, my dad went fairly fast..but I never got to say goodbye or anything, and that is the worst...I am glad you have days and nights with your dad while you can. Sending prayers your way for all of you.

All of your posts have touched my heart.
Jim, I hope your being MIA a bit wasn't due to anything bad (other than Panda, LOL).
Kathleen, I hope you are finally on the road to recovery from being so sick and then the meds making you worse.
Judith, I just read you've had a bad few weeks and I am praying so that you feel much better soon. And get your computer issues straightened out too.
Prosp, you've been missing lately yourself. I hope everything is alright with you and your son. Missed you here a lot.

    hugs to all,
    Karen

I am sorry for not having been here lately but I've some cervical vertebrae problems and sitting in front of my computer is almost impossible (nor sitting in the sofa or at the table... don't know what to do with my body all day long).

Will go to the hospital probably on Monday but am a bit afraid of having to stay there ;-)

However, today, I have less pain so, take the opportunity to wish you a happy May 1st one day later and send these Lily of the Valley, hoping they will bring you happiness!!!

Purplemoon, thank you so much for your thoughts... and, by the way, thank you a thousand times for your link to the Arizona pictures you gave me a few months ago, I really appreciated and dreamed about a trip to your splendid country.

Prosperity, so sorry to hear about your neck problems. That is the worst, when you can't even sit in front of your computer and visit with us. Hope you feel better soon!

Good luck to you Properity. Sure hope your surgery goes well and you feel better soon. Luvs

Prosp, I'm so glad you enjoyed the AZ. video link, hope your son did too. Funny thing is, Luvs sent me that link to see. LOL. Actually I see this video quite often as the early morning news sometimes closes the end of their show with it when they have extra minutes to use up. I love the song and the pictures and can't get enough of seeing it.
If anyone else is interested, here's the link.
    hugs, Karen

    Best wishes to Prosperity!
My lilies of the valley are perfuming my kitchen right now. I have a lot of them. They have been known to grow right through the blacktop!
