I would not, it has oil in it. I use just a wet wash rag and it removes anything I have found so far. When I vacuum I carry the wet rag with me.

The proper soap is carried at Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond. Or Amazon. Just google it.

NO...don't use dish detergent. It is definitely not made for doing fabrics and you will NEVER get the suds or residue out of your carpets. Any type of carpet-cleaner shampoo will work well. Bissell's products will usually tell you on the back how much you can use in their Little Green Machine. I've got one and I've used Bissell, Woolite, Rug Doctor...anything made specifically for carpet cleaners will work.

For occasional spots, I'll use something like Resolve spot cleaner (the pump, not aerosol spray), then use the Green Machine with clean water to pull out the stain and the product so leaving nothing in the carpet at all.

I used resolve on things I couldn't get out with a wet rag or if they came back again.

Dish detergent is a commonly used product for cleaning rugs. A professional rug cleaner once suggested it to me for spot cleaning. You need to be careful of the dye in some of them, though, so Dawn Clear is safer than the blue colored Dawn, for example.
