A Vintage Table Setting

These pictures don't really capture the entire setting. It is meant to depict a breakfast table. My camera decided to stop working before I finished.

These items were all my Mother's or Grandmother's except for the juice glasses. And of course the fresh orange on the juicer.

Oh Lee, that IS so vintage...Sally strawberry and Peggy Pear, how cute. I remember coffee pots like that and the white mugs too. Did they have a special name?
I have never seen anything like that juicer! Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

Kathleen, my mother did beautiful embroidery including cut-work. The items you see here were all done by her. She embroidered several sets of dish towels in different themes. She also did several potholders and other things. I have a dresser scarf that my Grandmother was working on when she died. Mother finished it, so that one piece has work from both of them.

The mugs are Fire King. The juicer/reamer is from the 1930s and considered a collectible now.

What neat and special things!! I have always admired embroidery. How nice that you have them. I remember those cups too. That juicer is so unique! I have a glass (hand) one that I use.

Thanks, Mary. My mother's embroidery was almost as pretty on the reverse side as the front. Her mother's was the same way. I enjoy looking at all the pretty pieces. I have to admit it makes me feel a tad guilty. I have appliances and machines and accomplish much less than either of them did.

    That's adorable!

What neat things you have--special memories in them too. Those cups were so popular, and I can't believe that calendar dish is from 1909! Wow! Thanks for sharing these with us. Luvs

I really enjoyed seeing the old things and hearing about them. I have a whippet calendar plate like the collie one, found in antique shop many years ago.

Lee, Your table with all of your mother's and grandmother's items is just beautiful. How wonderful for you to have all of this from them. I have never seen a juicer like yours. It is just precious. Sally Strawberry and Peggy Pear are wonderful! I just love your green sugar and creamer. And the old plates. How very special for you to have all of this. Your mother did beautiful stitching.

Great picture, very vintage, brought back childhood memories. My mom used to embroider alot.

Thanks, everyone. It's nice to find people who like to see things like this. Both plates were promotional items given out by stores. The 1909 plate was my Great-Grandfather's. It is obvious they used it a lot! Of course, Mother never used it after she got it. The other plate comes from a different store that gave dishes as premiums. They also gave out silverplate flatware. I grew up with these things, and the premium dishes and flatware were used on a daily basis.

My yellow iris are blooming, and I wanted to put some in the green pitcher, but can't have blooms in the house. Just pretend they are there!

Karen, how fortunate for you to find a whippet 1909 plate. That is really great. Can we see it sometime?

I don't know what is wrong with my digital camera, but it stopped working last night, and I can't get it going again. :-(

Yes, Fire King, couldn't think of it!!

hi2all, I know what you mean about feeling a little guilty! There was five of us kids and I remember my mother making clothes and coats for us on a treadle sewing machine, she never had an electric one....plus canning, etc,. I don't know how she did it. You just have to admire those women!!

Lee, It sounds like someone in your home has allergies since you can't have blooms in the house. The pollen index has been really bad around here this year and I've really been paying for it especially since I like being outside so much. And I can "see" the yellow iris in your green pitcher and they are beautiful.

Oh, I just love all your vintage dishes. And how special that they belonged to your mother and grandmother. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed seeing the old dishes.

Sandi, we have had the same problem with an exceptionally high pollen index this year. DH has allergies, asthma, and a chronic lung condition. No blooms and no candles. I'm so glad they came out with the artificial tea lights. I use those a lot -- when I remember to turn them on. They are so handy, and I can put them on the bookshelf and other places I would never place a real flame.

I'm glad you can visualize the yellow iris. They are pretty, I think.

Lee, Do you use battery operated tea lights? And do they work really well? I think I'd like to try them.

Sandi, yes, I use the battery powered tea lights. I ordered a box of twelve about two years ago. They use a battery similar to a watch battery, but larger. There is an off/on switch on the bottom. They came in clear "flame" or yellowish "flame". The ones I have also flicker slightly to give the illusion of a real flame. I'm very satisfied with them. About the only negative is appearance. I make sure they are concealed in a votive or other type holder. I think they are much better to use in a garland or wreath than other battery operated lights. The batteries in them last much longer, and there is no bulk as with AAs or Cs.

I noticed that now there are battery operated pillar candles, but I don't know anything about them.

... I saw the lights at one of the dollar stores last month. I didn't buy any though, so I have no idea how good they are.

Thanks Lee. I will have to check the battery operated lights out. They sound perfect for those odd places you always want to put a candle and can't.

Lee, I had to come back again to look at your table. I just love everything. I know everytime you look at any of it you have wonderful memories of your mother and grandmother. And it is amazing to me that you have a plate that your great grandfather ate from. I think that is extra special.

Thanks, Sandi. Those things do remind me of both Mother and Grandmother. I just have odds and ends, no complete sets, but I am pleased that I have the plate. After Mother died, I gave her china to my nephew.

Lee, I wanted to post here so I would be sure you got it. The limish green glasses at Sears look like they would be a good match to your green sugar and creamer. The color looks to be the same shade, but maybe not as "much" color as yours has.

Thanks. I will check them out.
