slide-in range selection

Im looking for a slide-in range, 30 in. I don't need anything upscale, just want good function especially with the self-cleaning, and ease of use. Ive never had convection and considering trying that. I have had my eye on the GE profiles and saw a frigidaire that would work. Anybody own one of these and can give me any info on how they like them or pros/cons. Or anyone have any ideas on any other brand slide-in. I like stainless steel with black, needs to be self=cleaning, and looking to spend $1000-$2000, hopefully lower end of that. Thanks

We have a 30" slide in by Kitchenaid that I love. It looks high end but cost us less than $2000. It's self cleaning and is ss w/ black top and grates.

I too have a 30" slide-in by Kitchenaid in SS. It was installed last week to replace white appliance (which had a convection oven that I never used). Kitchenaid model I chose doesn't have convection, looks really nice and so far performs very well - and I cook every day - and is self-cleaning. Price was just under $1500 and works with gas.

Thank you for your response. I need to look at kitchenaid I guess.

I am also looking at 30" slide-in electric ranges. I have seen some Kitchenaid models that I liked, but I have been very concerned by the many reports I have read on the GW forums and elsewhere about problems with Kitchenaid ovens (self-clean feature shorts out fuse so oven does not heat). Does anyone know whether this issue has been corrected in the newer models of Kitchenaid ranges/ovens?

I bought a slide in KA in 02 during our kitchen remodel. Had to replace it in a year...it was possessed :o Would come on without me turning it on and then "growled" at me...srsly! Replaced it with another slide in KA, this time with convection and warming drawer (Architect series). That was in Nov of 03. No problems. I love the sleek look of a slide in.

Just out of curiosity, gas or electric? I would be interested to see what you choose. We are looking a dual fuel because that is what the house had, but I am wondering if I should just go all gas.

Over 15 years, the black coated porcelain cooktop surface of our gas burners has spots we simply cannot get out. We are more interested in a stainless cooktop because we find we can clean it better. These days, there are more gas on glass sealed burners, and we are wondering about those, also. GE Profile is among one of our choices. We ruled out the KA because of the black porcelain top.

Let us know what you choose.

    monicakm -
I'm glad to hear that you have been happy with your KA range. I am also looking at the Architect series but am not sure whether to spend the extra for the convection feature. I had nearly ruled out KA due to the horror stories about their ovens and was leaning toward a Whirlpool Gold model. But maybe KA has stepped up and fixed the problem? Hope others will respond about the newer KA models.

gilmoregal, I LOVE the convection feature and use it exclusively. I can lower the temperature by 25 degrees and foods (for the most part) cook a little faster. Food also cooks more evenly and browns more evenly. The warming drawer is another feature you'll enjoy. Granted, I don't use it a lot, but when the need is there, I'm covered :)
