Cleaning Grills

What do you use to clean your grill grates? I have used Dawn Power Dissolver for the past few years and just love the job it does. When I went to buy more this week-end, I could not find it at my supermarket or at Target. I did find it at another store on Sunday, but it made me think about what other products are out there?

It seems like as soon as I really like a product, it is discontinued!

Good question! I'd rather not use chemicals if possible, and I just scrub with steel wool or a brush made specifically for grills-and dish soap, of course. But if anyone has an idea using natural, from-the-cupboard ingredients, send 'em on!

The fellow at the hardware store gave my husband a fantastic tip that we've used for years.

When you're done grilling, place a piece of foil on the grill, shiney side down. Close the lid and let the grill continue to run for about 10-15 minutes. The food will be totally burned off and all you need do at that point is give the grates a quick rinse. Really works, too!

Spray grates before using with Pam. After using, scrape off and spray with Pam again.

Azzalea, that's awesome! I can't wait to try it!

Before the flood, I used to have a grill with porcelain grates. If it is greasy stuff that troubles you, just get a tote big enough to hold the grills and some old rags. Put some rags in the tote, add the grates, maybe add more rags. Dump in some inexpensive ammonia, clear or sudsy and close the cover. After a couple of hours, the greasy stuff will come off easily. If you don't like "chemical" ammonia, stop worrying. It is a normal part of metabolism. Just do this in a well-ventillated place and you will have not trouble. It will "irritate you out of an area" before it causes you any damage.

We have been doing what Azzalea recommends for some time now and it really does work. Give it a try and you'll be pleased.

thanks. I'll give the ammonia a try. I use the foil method and it works great. I do like to do a real cleaning on all sides of the grill every few weeks and have always been so happy about the Way the Dawn Power Dissolver works.

I hate it when I love a product and then can't find it again!
