White Tablesetting

When Kathleen first mentioned this event, I wasn't sure if I would participate. I just couldn't "see" something in all white enticing me except for a wedding or shower. Then I started seeing all kinds of things that I thought would be great.

I found a new white tablecloth that I bought after Christmas on clearance and decided that I would attempt this table. I pondered about a centerpiece and finally found this floral arrangement that I really liked.

A close-up view:

I was a little worried about flatware and decided to use one of my two stainless sets. Then I walked into Ross one day and found this Cambridge set and knew that I had to have it. It is so pretty. The box calls it casual, but I think it works nicely on a dressed up table, too.

The handles seemed to wash out with the flash, but they are very pretty with a nice silver looking design. The handles are clear.

Next, I had a dilimna over napkins and napkin rings. I had a new white tablecloth, but couldn't find white napkins except ones that looked plain. I found these at Big Lots when I wasn't even looking for them. Then after going through my napkin rings, I decided on these white ceramic ones with flowers on top. (white on white of course)

I didn't have a full set of white dishes, but planned to use what I had until I found this Gibson set in the Salvation Army Thrift Store. It is so unusual with the over sized, pretty cups. I think they are great for even desserts. The store was about to close when I found them and I grabbed them up. They came from an estate sale and didn't appear to have been used.

That brings us to stemware. Although I had several to choose from, I ran across these again at the SA as they were being unboxed from an estate sale. They were pulling off stickers where they were priced at $5 each. I paid $15 for nine of them. They are very pretty.

I really didn't set out to buy almost everything for this table, it is just when I started thinking white, I realized all the potential for this tablescape and decided that I wanted to be prepared with some items that I didn't have. As luck, or thrifty shopping would have it, I found most items at a great price and pulled together something that I ordinarily wouldn't do. I am very pleased with the result.

I think the white on white is so clean and refreshing. I can see it being used in many settings and look forward to using this table at a dinner party soon.

The candle holders were some that I already had and I just added some tall white tapers.

Thanks for stopping by and seeing me work outside my usual comfort zone. I really love the end result and can't wait to see all the other fantastic white tablescapes. Be sure to stop by Kathleen's blog to see hers and links to all the others.

Thank you Kathleen for inspiring me.

Hooray, it works to copy and paste from the blog! I wasn't sure if it would. I have been in bed all day sick and finally got up to look at the tables. I have had a horrible raspy cough since Sunday and on Monday I coughed so much that I was afraid of cracking a rib. Last night I knew I had a temp, thought it would break by morning.

When I got up this morning, I felt worse. By mid afternoon, I was so weak that I didn't want to move off of the couch. I finally went out to the urgent care center. I have a bad case of bronchitis and a sinus infection. My neck is so stiff and I have this horrendous pain stabbing up the side of my face when I bend my head down. I had 102.5 temp, so he gave me a steroid shot, an antibiotic and some cough syrup with codine. Hopefully, I will feel better by morning.

I just had to stop my here to check out everyone' table.

Great jobs! I hope more share theirs.

A person sure wouldn't know you were working outside your comfort zone. Looks wonderful to me. Of all your thrifty finds, I am especially taken with the stemware.

I hope the bug you have leaves quickly. Just got over the summer flu myself and I know it's no fun.

    Take care.

PD..first off I must say take care of that cold/congestion. You don't want that to develop into anything worse than you already have. I had been sick in bed on an off for 2 weeks with the same thing..Everytime I felt better and got up..I would relapse.. now, this morning I have another Doctor's appointment for an ultrasound of the kidneys...it seems to have settled in there. Hope you can 'nip it in the bud' and will be feeling better soon.

Okay..now for the good stuff! I love how you put this table together. I looks so lovely and yes Romantic.
You shopped at all my favorite places Ross/SA/and Big Lots!!
I know that flatware set and yes, it's really lovely to see in person. I can kick myself for not buying a Black Set when I was at Ross in FL. Now I see yours, and makes me all the more sad. I love those dishes and their design. Brings me back to my ALL White days when I looked for sets like this at TS, and yes, those cups are a great size...I'm thinking nice cup of tea, besides all sorts of things.
Also, your Stems are really, really nice. What a great buy..you can say that - You Were In The Right Place At The Right Time!! I think you table came out really beautiful and so perfect with everyting you 'found'..lol Great Job.
Remember...take care of yourself..and feel better soon.

Wow! You are a woman after my own heart! You went shopping and found some treasures for sure--and at such bargain prices. I know you will get lots of use out of your new set of white dishes and the silverware too. I agree that those glasses were a great find too, such a lovely shape. Your tablescape turned out really nice, and I hope you will be feeling better real soon. Luvs

Your table is just lovely, PD! Are you sure you haven't contracted the Swine Flu? My good friend Jayne, her DH & DD picked it up on their trip to Mexico and their symptoms sound very similar to yours . . . from what I remember, that is. Hope you feel better soon.

    PD,
Lovely tablescape. And its so cool to hear the stories behind each of the pieces! Love the silverware - they really add to your beautiful tablesetting. The white dishes and the glasses are all great. Did you do that centerpiece yourself? It looks very nice.

Hope you feel better soon! And Jane, hope you get better soon too.

Thanks for the compliments. I feel better today and am watching some tv and checking in here. Lynn, I was really scared when I went to the doctor. I kept putting off going and then got to the point I didn't even feel like walking to the car. He didn't even mention the flu, which surprised me. I figured that he would take blood or something. There were 2 cases in the little small community and one was an elementary student. I sub a lot at this school system. I think this was in the back of my mind.

I think the steroid shot was what gave me back some energy. I have 10 days of antibiotics also. The cough syrup helped but made me luppy.

It is nice to have some new things to look forward to on here. Thankfully, I had all my photos uploaded and already posted before I felt too bad. I found that I could copy from the HTML part of my blog and then just paste here. Nice to know.

Printer, I think this is the best table you have done to date...the others have been great but this one is fantastic! You have put everything together so well for a wonderfully romatic feel. I always love a tablecloth as a basis for a tablescape and the one you choose is lovely. The dishes are such a pretty design and those cups are very unique and versatile. The flatware, the napkins, rings, candles, centerpiece....love it all! The only thing missing is actual "candlelight"...you'll remember to light them next time! LOL!

Hope you are feeling better soon!

I am sure you will a lot of use out of your whites. I never even knew everyone should have a set till I started coming here! I would never have thought I needed white! LOL

DD, thank you for the wonderful compliments. I really enjoyed this one. This time last year I would have never even thought of me spending so much time with dishes. It is a lovely addiction!

Kathleen, thanks again for such a wonderful time with the white tables.

    You all are the best.

WOW! What an elegant table. And what great items you found at such great prices.

As some folks around here would say, "It will be 'purty dern' hard to top this!"

Take care and get well soon.

You too, Jane. Whatever you have sounds mean.

Oh PD, your table is so pretty. I haven't been here for a while, and I thought this was the beginning of the white table posts, but I guess I'll have to check again. Great Job. - Gail
