I have two pair of Earth shoes. One is smooth plastic and I just use a damp sponge to remove the salt in the winter, and the other is smooth leather strappy type sandal and they never got dirty enough to require any special attention to cleaning.

What are you trying to clean off of them????? Different dirt requires different cleaning techniques.

If yours are fabric, salt is going to be a big problem in the winter. Here is a frugal hint: do not buy that expensive "salt remover" that shoe stores sell. All it is is vinegar that is dyed blue and sold for $1/oz. Just use plain vinegar that you probably have in the kitchen. Works like a charm for just pennies.

I've never had good results from purchasing those spray on "waterproofing" that the shoe stores sell for fabric shoes. Slush and salt soak right in and leave hideous stains no matter what. I work in a restaurant and thought those sprays would protect my shoes. Nada. A drip of coffee or spagettie sauce makes a permanent stain. You could try the sprays, but I wouldn't put much faith in them.

If you are trying to clean grease off of fabric shoes - good luck. Not easy to do without damaging the look of the shoe. The best thing to use is the degreasers that they sell to restaurants for cleaning things in their kitchen. Not available to the genreral public though. I bought a case from where I work, for general cleaning around my house and my shoes.

I know it probably doesn't sound smart to wear fabric shoes working in a restaurant where they are going to put up grease and greasy dirt, but it is so hot working in a steamy kitchen, and feet get hot standing on them all day, that heavy leather shoes are not necessarily practical.

For cleaning off mud, just use laundry soap.

I know that a lot of hospital workers wear earth shoes and I can imagine they heave to deal with types of stains that average people do not encounter. Best to probably ask your co-workers what they do if they should get a blood stain or chemical stain something yucky on their shoes.

For tar, I know there is a special technique, but I can't remember what it is, as I never had a problem with tar on my shoes, since I don't work on asphalt.

You will LOVE your Earth shoes! I was soooo happy when they brought them back a few years ago. I never knew why they stopped making them. No back pain. No tired feet. No swollen knees. And I Love the new styles they have out now. They are not your mother's Earth shoes!

Ok, will keep in mind the dish soap & vinegar. I don't get salt on them as I live where it isn't practical to wear sandals in winter! They get just plain dusty & dirty in summer.I guess I just have to be more vigilant at weekly cleaning. Thanks all & have a good weekend!

I have earth shoes, I love them but as for cleaning them, I just use warm water, dish soap and an old toothbrush to scrub, then rince them and put them outside to dry but not in the sun you don't want to fry the leather
