New dining table!!!! Pic!

For over a year I have been looking for an antique Duncan Phyfe drop leave table w/ extensions leaves to put at the back of our very long living room for big parties.

Finally today I was listed a curio cabinet on Craig's List and checked the tables. I caught this right after it was listed! Called the guy, DH and I drove down (30 min.) to pick it up. We did not want chairs, but took 2 of the 6 he offered. This opens up to 80 inches w/ leaves up and 2 inserts in. Isn't it darling:

Wow, what a GREAT find! The table is beautiful and so are the chairs! So those are the chairs he offered with the table?

Thank you PDG. Yes, he had 6 chairs: 2 armchairs and 4 side chairs. The last thing we need is more chairs, however, when he said he'd break up the set and sell us just 2 mahogany side chairs....well, how could we resist?? We have a cherry dining room set in our formal DR w/ 2 arm and 4 side chairs. These chair will work well w/ that set and vise versa.

Our DR is fine for up to 8 people, but over that, we're crowded (2 weeks ago we had 10 and I was pulling my hair out). We have this 26' living room that has room right down the center (and in front of the fireplace) for this table to be fully opened and we can add a folding table to it, if need be. So our larger gatherings will be in the LR from now on.

In the meantime, I plan on making it look like a library table. Am not home now (at my DD's place for the night) to play with it, but will fuss a bit more when I get home.

I can already envision our Thanksgiving in front of the fireplace!

That is a great table! I love drop leaf tables. The side chairs are terrific too, and look like they'd be very comfortable.

I know the excitement of finally getting a piece of furniture you've sought for so long. Congratulations and enjoy! :)

    BonnieAnn,

Beautiful table! And you probably got a GREAT price, too.

You're doing pretty much what I want to do! I also have a long living room (about 26 ft); one end is a stairway and the other French doors. I am thinking of putting a table for entertaining in front of the French doors (behind the sofa, which is up by the fireplace) for fall/winter entertaining. Yours doesn't appear to block any doors, LOL. But the only time I would use it would be for the holidays. And I am also thinking--if I move the furniture a little, I could have it in front of our (large) fireplace! Let us know how the table works out for you, and show us pix of your party tablescapes.

Oh it's so nice to have people understand!!! My husband "gets it" because he knows what we go through to fit big crowds in our dining room. Our daughters, OTOH, think it's strange.

This isn't my first attempt at adding a table to the back of the living room. I bought one off an ebay seller, had it shipped from TN to MA, used it for a year and sold it to a local realtor who was staging a house for sale. It just wasn't right and visually took up too much space. It was round w/4 French side chairs. I LOVED the chairs, but really didn't need them. I even recovered them w/ a red toile to coordinate w/ our DR chairs.

This new set was a steal! I can't wait to get home and go at it with a little more Old English Polish, then maybe DH and I will eat on it tonight.

Jeanne, you're too funny! Magpie, there is a French door that I have totally open in the pic. It leads to the sunroom.

I've always admired those tables too, so pretty and practical. Glad you were able to find such a nice one at a bargain price. Luvs
