Help me replace my stupid swiffer, please.

I have been using a swiffer as a dust mop for a long time. Well, let me rephrase that. I have been using swiffer products and had to replace the mop several times becuase it is a hunk of junk. The plastic swivel breaks too easily.

I also don't like the non(or minimally)-reusable aspect of the cloths and the only reason I have been using them this long is becuase someone gave me boxes and boxes of the cloths when swiffer was a new phenomenon.

I do like how well the dust sticks to it, however. Beats the heck out of the broom.

So, dust mop with reusable and washable cloths, sturdy swivel with preferable metal parts, not plastic. I want to it to last a long time and to be able to buy replacement covers, etc for it. I don't want to buy some expensive thing and not be able to find the parts in a few years. If it could be used wet, that's great.

I was looking at the sh mop but I could not find a close-up pic of the swivel, to see how it is made, and I don't know if those have proved to be available and durable over time.

I am open to any suggestions and am willing to shell out some money for something the fits all my criteria.

I have two Swiffers...one downstairs and one for the bathrooms upstairs.
Downstairs floors are hardwood or tile, with the exception of the den and the library (parrot's room...LOL), which are carpeted.
Ya know what? I find it way easier to just run the vacumn on my non-carpeted floors...picks up more, too.
Swiffers, at least to me, are a waste of money.
I mean...I'm gonna scrub my floors after Swiffering them anyway so...

I have a sh-mop and overall it is great. The only negative for me is the head is pretty big, so it can't get into certain tight spots like a swiffer can. I got the microfiber cover for it -- think it's better than the terrycloth that comes with it. I also put some velcro strips on top so I can attach microfiber towels to the head.

For those of you that still like your swiffer, you can easily attach a microfiber cloth to it - no need to waste money buying the disposable cloths.

Ditto that Weed...
I began using microfiber cloths in lieu of the swiffer cloths and like my swiffer even more. One word of caution, if you have LOTS of pet hair like we do, make sure to vacuum off the excess hair before putting the cloth in the wash. I have never had a problem with the swiffer handles- either the dry or the wet jet- but maybe I am just not as an aggressive cleaner LOL!

I have been through three swiffers. the little tabs that the handle clips into break off every time. I have never thought of my self as an aggressive cleaner! but maybe I am WHEN I do finally clean. :)

Weed, I was looking at the sh mop but I can't see the swivel. Is it metal in the areas that are vulnerable to breaking? Have you had it for long? Who makes them?

I bought a microfiber mop at the site below and I like it. Comes with 3 pads, swivels, and is not too large.

Sunny,I had the same problem you had with the dang swiffer swivel head.I solved my problem by buying a generic head for a dollar at the dollar store.I had to mount it on a regular broomstick pole though.I use the swiffer because my dog sheds 24/7 and I can't always run the vaccuum thru everyone else's tv programs.I get my swiffer cloths from other people's houses where I clean .They are good thru 2-3 washes.But the micro fiber rags are really a great alternative.You can buy them in bulk in the automotive department of most stores now.

Jeanskitchen, I would love something that would pick up the cat hair and dust bunnies in between vacuums on hardwood floors (e.g. the "one, two, six cleanup" when company is stopping over or "I just didnÂt quite get to it") solution. It would be nice if you could just throw the cloth in wash Â would the mop you recommend do all this?

hate the wetjet but i liked the the vac when i had a long haired dog I now use the wet/ dry mop I made my own solution and cheap 15 for about $5.00. My problem is the rubber part that u wrap the cloths around it comes off easy and also tends to deteriorates and crumbs yuck and u cant replace it have buy a new mop.

This is a really old thread...however, I am recuperating from some medical stuff, and now I am on page 42 of this thread. I am getting re-educated on cleaning....enough of listening to the impeachment stuff. We purchased the SHMOP in 1995, when we bought our old house. Hubby loves it!! And, if you need replacements, the company ( Clean Team) sends them right out, and they last forever. Hubby has a sewing machine that is an antique...he loves pulling that thing out, and sews his own replacement bonnets with elastic and micro fabric covers. He loves sewing with the antique machine...if I’m not careful, I find him sewing all sorts of things. Get the SHMOP...IT WILL NOT BREAK!

If so many of us have the same problem then you need to re design the handle
