Some time to Play

I am having a 4 day weekend (B.C. Day on Mon. and I took Fri. as a vacation day) and enjoying having time to "play" with a few items I just purchased at a local gift/decor store that is going out of business. Everything in the store was 70% off! I could have gone crazy but tried to restrain myself. I bought the black pillar candle holders for $9/ea, six brown chargers for $2/ea and the brown runner for $6. This table is still a work in progress but thought I'd show you my bargains.

I'm not sure if all these different "browns" are working and I think I need a taller centerpiece in between the pillar holders (what do you all think?) .....hmmmm, saw a large faux-wood rooster at that store.... I'm sure Judith would say I should buy it! LOL!

I saw two of these little birdie tealight holders and HAD to get them. It would be nice to have one at each place setting but they didn't have any more which is just as well since they weren't near the bargain prices I found at the other store.

Very pretty. Love the little bird figurine too. And if Judith doesn't tell you to get that rooster, I sure will.
How could leave that poor guy behind !!!

DD, your table setting would fit perfectly my new living room decoration... since I did not changed my dining room yet; which is desperately white!

Thanks Karen. I have looked at that rooster a couple of times now but it is the "faux-wood" look of him more than the price which makes me undecided. But maybe you are right, the "poor guy" needs me to buy him and put him in a setting where he looks better! lol

Prosperity, have you got an "apple green & brown" living room - sounds lovely! Maybe you should switch furniture and call your living room your dining room for awhile. DH and I put a table in front of our fireplace last winter for a couple of months...was so cozy to eat there for a change.

    Lovely, very autumnal....

Thanks Kathleen. I hadn't really thought about the look of this table being "atumnal" but since both you and my DM mentioned it, I guess it really is with the apples and the brown colours. It is sad to think Fall is not really that far away...although some of you are probably looking forward to the cooler temperatures. We are only just now getting hot weather so I would like it to go on for awhile yet!

You found some really pretty things DD. Love your brown chargers, and they sure go well with your glasses. Those candles are really pretty too. Isn't it fun to start pulling things together to get the "look" you want?

I'm seeing lots of Fall and Halloween in the stores already too--but like you, I'm not ready to have summer end yet. (In spite of the high electric bills because of needing the air conditioning.) We've been taking evening walks and enjoying the cool breeze and pretty sky. And I love the sound of the wind in the palm trees.

So well put together. You have a knack of polishing all of your tables with the neatest details that sets them apart.
I love the bird and have picked up some of those chargers before and put them back down because of the cost. What a great deal you got on them!
Oh, what the heck. Go get the rooster. You have me dying to see it now!

DD...great buys..you are a splendid shopper! Love the beautiful color combo on your table, and I love how you put everything together. Also, I love the little birdie..and yes, 'Mr Rooster'..could probably use some TLC and if you brought him home, in the right setting...I'm sure you could do wonders with him too!! LOL Now how's that for a guilt trip...hehehehe

I appreciate your comments Luvs, Betty and Jane.

Luvs, you really summed up the "playing" part when you mentioned it being fun to start pulling things together to get the look you want. My family is used to it now but still can't believe the amount of time I'm willing to devote to it. Only the folks on this forum can relate...and I am so thankful I found you all!

Betty & Jane, I AM having "guilt" over leaving Mr. Rooster behind, I just may have to pay him a visit again and see
    if he "speaks" to me....

    DD,
My living room cupboards are "antique oak" - the sofa is bordeaux. The ceiling is also in wood.

I chose rustic furniture for this room because I live in the countryside, in a real small village house, but I will change the other rooms later.

For instance, my dining room walls and curtains are yellow and terracotta (my Mexico period, lol), the furniture is white and modern (my hospital period maybe).

As Kathleen wrote: your table setting is autumnal and I think these colors are warm :)

Very nice DD, and yes, definately go back for the Rooster, I have a very large one in the "wood tone" look, I think he is elegant (for a rooster anyway) LOL

This is an old photo of my "wood look" rooster.

After seeing your rooster, Judith I decided I "needed" the one I had seen but of course by the time I went back, he had "flown the coop". Ya snooze, ya lose, I guess! You sure must have a collection of them at your house. I will be on the look out for one to start mine...
