Wall ovens

Has any one heard anything about the new Dacor or Wolf electric ovens? I have done so much research and I am getting very discouraged as I just want a great oven that will stand the test of time!

Tons of stuff on this forum about both of them. Just search Dacor oven and Wolf oven and you'll pull it up. There are both pros (particularly with the Wolf) and cons (slow response to changes in temperature with the Wolf; a fair number of very negative experiences with the Dacors) that you'll find. Ovens that do get pretty consistent positives are the Mieles and the GE ZET Monograms. Again, search these as well for much detailed information.

Clarification: I believe it is the ZET1 and ZET2 that are getting consistent positive reviews; there other models in the Monogram line that also start with "ZET", that aren't as popular.

I had the Dacor top of the line Discovery wall oven and they bought it back and now I am kind of leaning toward the new Electrolux (not the Icon) and it is about half the price. Also in the running --Miele. I wish I could try the electrolux out live. It has true convection bake, roast and broil. I am curious what people have to say that are just getting them installed. I did love all the ideas that Dacor had but they just couldn't seem to make them work.

I looked at the wolf today...Miele and Electrolux not available locally. I also looked at the Kitchen Aid architect II series as they don't have that cleaning/fuse issue. They have lots of nice features and the price is a bargain. They have convection bake roast & broil and also convection conversion. So I guess it is between KA and Wolf. Any thoughts?

I love that Dacor Discovery unit...why did they buy it back?

I posted extensively about my Dacor woes. Besides the wall oven I had the ER36D range. They actually bought them both back. A brief synopsis.
The first issue was quality. The oven came with the inside badly chipped and parts missing. The replacement oven had the door misaligned and could not be fixed. One of the knobs on the range broke in a few months of use--plastic. The inside of the range door chipped too.
The second issue was that neither oven could maintain a temp while in actual use. No capacity to add heat if you turned it up, opened the door frequently for items with short baking times, put in a cold item etc. The service department said they knew this issue and replaced the boards but it did not fix the problem. The thermostat was way off on the wall oven.
The third issue was that Dacor never kept their own time frame of when they would "fix" something. I always had to call and follow up and I would give them a few extra days or a week. They would not return voicemails and if I wanted to talk to a live person,"you will have to get in the service que and the wait is 30 mins" I was going to give them another chance because they wanted to bring yet a third oven to be delivered the next week but I never heard from them again. After three weeks and I turned to the original vendor to get my money back and then Dacor called me back did eventually give my money back but not until I had to nag again for it with their excuses of why it would take them 6 weeks to write the check instead of the promised 3 weeks. Others who had problems and posted had much better response from Dacor than I did. The local service guy was great and accomadating. If you choose the Dacor oven make sure you get an extended warranty from a reputable service company-if the board has to be replaced they are unbelievably expensive. Also make sure you have an independent oven thermometer to check the temperature. Maybe they have all these issues fixed now.
Everything else in my kitchen was wonderful and far exceeded my expectations.

I think that Fisher and Paykel ovens also get pretty consistent positives.

where did you hear that KA Architect II doesn't have the fuse/cleaning issue anymore?

I think that I read that on another blog through Cooking Illustrated. Also, the salesman at the appliance store mentioned that, I think. Why have you heard something different???

Welcome to the club of 'which oven to buy?' I've gone round and round with the decision-making process regarding wall ovens and have a short list now: Miele or Viking. The Wolf was too expensive for my budget and figured the customer service from Viking ( we're fortunate enough to have a major distributor in Denver) sounds as though they'll come through if problems arise. Yes, I know Viking has been bashed thoroughly and I asked the salesmen to address some of the the issues, mainly the disappearing markings. He told me the markings on the previous enamel plates that rubbed off easily are now laser etched into the metal of the plate. This change was effected about 7 months ago.
Also, he is the second salesman to tell which oven he would buy for his own home: Viking. The other salesman at another store who attested to Viking's quality had bought the oven for his daughter's home.
The Miele is a wonder with all the features it offers. However, I don't know if I truly would use all the bells and whistles, especially TWO rotisseries (sp.).
This probably isn't much help except to add the quality control of the Miele appears to be substantial. We were told all of the oven components are made by Miele and the company stands by its product.
I may just have to flip a coin on this decision. Good luck with yours!

I can't get either one of those brands locally, so it it a bit of a problem for me i.e. viewing product, service and extended warranty. I am leaning towards KA...what is your read on that? Wekick, what did you choose to replace your Dacor units? I don't know why this is so difficut to make a decision on wall ovens!

It's difficult because no one wants to have failed ovens and deal with the service issues. I went through the same thing.

It is hard to pick out an oven because you are spending alot of coin, you probably will live with it a long time there are so many choices. I think I am going with the Electrolux-the new one not the Icon. I am going to find someone to sell it to me that will let met try it for 30 days and return if I don't like it. I may have to buy from Lowes and I definitely will put it on my charge. canuck99 is right dealing with service issues wears you out and explaining to the spouse how you spent 10 grand on appliances that don't work can be alittle trying. Still haven't decided on the range. Would love a Blue Star but those nagging sevice issues.... I want to look at Capital too but they don't return my e-mails looking for a local dealer.

The Wolf is expensive but seems to get consistently high reviews. Decor seems to be getting as much of a bashing as Viking on many sites. We are looking at the KA micro wall oven combo as few make these and the price seems reasonable. I'm glad the fuse issue is resolved but has anyone else read about the micro door shattering? I was set on this until I starting reading about those woes. I do love the Miele also but can't see paying for all the bells and whistles.

I am also going to check the Electrolux Icon out since it seems to be getting nice reviews.
    Good luck.

I love my GE ZET1. Only complaint I have is that the broiler doesn't come on until you close the door.

I'm surprised that Wolf was more for some of you. For me it was definitely less than Meile and closer to the same, but I think still a bit less than the Dacor. I had to have mine replaced, but I have nothing but great customer service, no fights or struggles. Mine was apparently an oddball that got damaged in assembly and couldn't be seen. All the repairmen and sales people I have talked to have said it is very rare -- even the only new Wolf to have a problem some of them had heard of. I tool the lemon, so you all should be good! LOL

Seriously -- it's a good oven, a good company and backed by good people.

That was supposed to say I took the lemon -- like taking a bullet for ya. Oh well. Maybe I will be able to type in another life. ;-)

lascatx, I had read some of your earlier threads regarding your lemon experience. You are happy now? I am very torn between the Wolf and Miele, as Miele seems to be more consistant than Wolf based on what I read...though shallow me likes the look of Wolf better. (Then there is the whole mattching a microwave thing.) The Miele is cheaper for me too, though I do not think I will use the master chef and rotisserie, so I am not sure the expense is worth it. Just curious, based on all you went through, would you do it again?
    Thanks for your help.

I just finisheed posting on another thread, so I'll copy here to make sure you see it, but absolutley glad I made the choice I did.

Yes, I am happy and would still recommend Wolf. I got a lemon right out of the box, we just didn't know until they came to see why it wasn't baking evenly. They replaced a coil, and when they pulled it out of the oven, the old one was so knarled and twisted I was amazed it worked at all! I suspect the overheating thing was something that was also damaged but not discovered at the time. When I called Wolf on that, they had no hesitation in immediately placing a replacement order. The only question was which serial number was correct since they had it down with one digit off in one place.
I have had no problems with the new oven -- other than impatience. If I put something in the minute the preheat signal goes off, I can get dark bottoms because the heat has not evened out. If I give it a minute or two, it seems to be fine. On the other hand, it seems to heat a bit faster, so I'm not really waiting longer.

I'm willing to accept that even the very best made and strictly controlled product can have a lemon slip out. In my case, the coil was in a tray that slides in and probably caught on something as it went in. That flaw may have led to the other problem. While I had the control panel replaced, it was a cosmetic issue (fogging) and it too may have been caused by an underlying electrical problem that was overheating but hadn't made itself apparent. I have not heard of another problem like this. The first guy who came out said he'd never had a call on a new Wolf and rarely had calls on Wolf at all. That was pretty much the reaction I had from everyone, so I was reassured about the product quality. This was a fluke damage problem as far as I can tell -- not a design problem or bad parts with thousands of problem ovens out there.

Another thing I am very happy with is Wolf's customer service. Couldn't be better. If you need them, they are there, quickly, they speak clear English on clear phone lines, talk nicely to you, the service is friendly, helpful and efficient.

No one wants to have a problem, but if you do, what more can you ask for than for someone to quickly and easily help you resolve it without any arguements, hoops to jump through or other hassle? I can deal with a headache or two like that, but even one where you have to hassle over it is too many (i.e., Whirlpool and my dead washing machine).

I think you will be good with any of the ones you are looking at, but I have no problem recommending Wolf. We liked the looks of the Wolf too, and I certainly didn't need the rotiserrie (can roast without it or grill with one pretty much 12 months out of the year) or the fancy programming. DH was sold on the quality after talking to a Wolf rep about the one product/one man assembly approach (they KNOW who screwed up my old oven, poor guy LOL) The Wolf cost less for me too.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

We looked at ovens today--2 different salesman. The first one said he would buy a Dacor because of the consistent good reputation it has plus you can clean it with the racks still in. I like that a lot. Then he left and Number 2 salesman said he would buy a Miele because it has great features and is equal to a Wolfe, but $500 cheaper. The Wolfe and Miele are $3800 and $4300. That is a lot of money for one oven. More then I can justify. I still want to buy the KA Architect series but am scared it still blows up. So will probably go with GE Monogram and Advantium 120. What a dilemna. You would think this was the World's biggest problem the way I go back and forth on an hourly basis. But when you are spending this kind of money it is hard to part with it in hopes that you will be buying the right oven.

Gardenmax, FWIW, I have the Monogram ZET1 and Advantium 120 and have been so pleased with them. My other contenders were Wolf (like you, I couldn't justify the $$ difference) and FIsher-Paykel (spotty service in NC). I would make the same choice again in a heartbeat - don't feel like you're just settling (although the oven doesn't have the blue interior which I did love). I had the KA Architect in our previous home and had to replace the motherboard twice after self-cleaning, plus the fan was LOUD. I love my KA dishwasher but no go on the oven.

zoenipp what does FWIW mean? I am new to this site so somethings I don't understand. Did you get a 27" or 30" oven? What is the Monogram ZETl? Sorry for the simple questions. I have been reading the sites as fast as I can but so much information here, and such great information.
Thanks for the comment, not settling for what you want. That blue interior is so pretty, but...for that much more money I can get over that quick enough... Thank you again.

The Gaggenau are fairly highly rated as well. If you look online you can still find some deals on the discontinued 27" size. I was able to get double ovens for $2,650 while they normally go for $5,400.

    Gardenmax,

I'm obviously not zoenipp, but I'll try to answer your questions. FWIW = For what it's worth. The Monogram ZET1 is a 30" single electric wall oven by GE Monogram.

    HTH - hope that helps.

Ditto what Zoenip says: I have the ZET1 30" and the 120 Advantium and I am so happy with both of them that I can't even think of having anything else.

For those of you with Wolf appliances, did you buy an extended warranty? We're finally ready to place our order for the series E double wall ovens and the 6 burner rangetop, and DH wants to know if we should buy the extended warranty.

Looks like the standard Wolf warranty is 2 years parts and labor followed by an additional 3 years of parts only, which by my reasearch is pretty generous. I also know from this forum that Wolf seems to stand behind their products and has a good reputation.

So, would you buy the extended warranty or pass?

    Thanks!

I am looking to replace 15 year old Kitchen Aid double wall ovens with another brand. I have looked at Viking--the interior depth dimension seems short 16 3/16--I have bread tiles and pizza stones that do not fit into my upper convestion wall oven. Any suggestions?

Save the money and buy the Kitchenaid or spend the money and buy the Miele. Wolf, Dacor and Thermador seem to always be in or out of trouble, GE is probably a good oven but I just dislike the company. Electrolux (Frigidaire - Icon) just haven't been accepted yet (may be good, but not enough info)
