Halloween projects, etc

Halloween will soon be here, so I thought I would share a few ideas with you. Most of these came from the forums here at THS over the past few years, but thought I would revive them.

If you have any Halloween ideas to add, please put them on this thread!!

Witches Brew-Cider

Apple juice or cider in individual serving boxes. Add a little baggy of cinnamon, ground cloves, a little sugar, a little nutmeg, and a piece of whole cinnamon stick for the skeleton bone. Put all in a black mug, paint an orange jack-o-lantern on with Permenamel paint, wrap with cellophane and tie with black and orange curling ribbon. Attach poem:

Boo Brew

Take a cauldron (tho a cup will do)

And fill it with this witches brew.

The ground up goodies cast a Halloween spell.

The old skeleton bone should mix it well.

Drink it warm or cold, it will taste just right

On a dark and spooky October night

Candy Corn

Put candy corn in a mug or Halloween bag or box and attach this poem:

Halloween is almost here

goblins and ghosts, oh the fear!

Pumpkins, black cats and witches too,

Bobbing for apples and witches brew.

So jump for joy and sound the horn,

relax and have some candy corn!

(A cute poem)

NIGHTMARES!

Looking around as the noises loom,

knowing how close you are to doom

You begin to sweat, the goosebumps flow,

you turn to run but the feet won't go

The roaches crawl across your face,

the spiders make their webs of lace

You try to scream but no sound comes forth,

The demons have charted this deadly course

High above the witches fly,

screaming loudly as they pass you by

Down below the hands break free,

and now they rise from the muddy sea

Blood is oozing from every door,

spilling secrets that are held no more

All this comes from that one mistake,

That extra piece of pie you ate. NIGHTMARES!!

(another cute poem)

THE NIGHT OF HALLOWEEN.

The Harvest moon fills the sky

A wicked witch goes flying by

Ghosts and goblins..skeleton's too.

Moaning and groaning, waiting for you

Black cats prowl the graveyard plots

Witches cook in cauldron pots

Cemetery ghouls roam the ground

Not one unopened grave is found

Tombstones are an eerie sight

Shadows dance in full moon light

The haunted house on the hill

Walk in there and you get a chill

Jack-o-lanterns eyes so bright

Trick or Treaters scream in fright

It's a time like you've never seen

Tonight's the night of Halloween.

I found some great mugs at Oriental Trading company that I use for the witches brew. Then because they had mixed designs with the cups, I altered the poem slightly to fit each character. I used the apple juice boxes. And for old bones I found candy stixs (in our day they were candy cigerettes), that looked neat. I sold a lot of these. I think Hobby Lobby and Paper Warehouse would have neat cups/mugs too.

Other places to look for mugs are the dollar stores and Dollar Tree. They usually have the mugs pretty cheap, sometimes 2/$1.00. The candy cigs are a great idea for the bones! Did you wrap your finished product in cellophane? Or how did you finish it out?
It's great to hear some new ideas!

I first made these about 13 years ago. Over the years I've adapted the originals. I've not sold these in 11 years at craft shows and am going to try again this year.
You use empty paper towel and wrapping paper rolls. I prefer to sew my "dress" and "sleeves". Basicly you cut the fabric the height of your roll and cut the sleeves as long as she want to make the arms. You make a tube for the dress and sleeves. I glue a piece of card board to the bottom and fill the roll with rice or dry beans. I take the dress and hand gather one end, then I glue that to the top of the tube so that the bottom covers the cardboard. Then put a pipe cleanner in the arms and gather in the middle and hand sew. Glue the arms to the back. The head is a styrofoam ball with quilt batting around it glued to the top of the roll. I used my stove eye covers to trace a circle on muslin that I pulled the edges to rip it and wadded it up to make it wrinkled. Then draw the eyes and mouth, drape over the head and tie with jute cord. The pipe cleanners can be shaped to pose the arms and that's how you attach the halloween bucket. I think they look cute on a buffet, dinning table, coffee table etc.
    email if you have questions.

To keep punch cold, freeze water in some plastic Halloween cups (with lids) and let them float in the punch bowl (which is of course a cauldron). One year we used dry ice, which looked really cool, but it froze the punch. I found some glow in the dark skull cups last year at the party store and they looked great in the punch.
