You can check how easy or hard it is to remove the handles. Sometimes it involves disassembling the door, which isn't necessarily something you want to do on something brand new.

If the handle is all stainless steel you might be able to get it brass plated and patina'd so it'll look like antique brass. You might also be able to find a metal worker or sculptor who will make you custom fit handles. It all just depends on how much you want to spend on making your vision a reality.

The appliance pulls that you can buy that are like cabinetry handles are made to work on custom panels. You might be able to find one that fits the holes on your dishwasher, if it has a face mounted bar handle. Less likely, but slightly possible for the fridge. Antique brass isn't particularly popular, however, so there won't be a huge variety out there. Remember that you not only need the exact size center of screw hole to center of screw hole, but also a big enough base to cover any dimple or scratch remaining from the handle that comes on the unit.

Thanks for your reply, plllog. I certainly don't want to risk ruining a new appliance. I may settle for buying replacement handles from the manufacturer in stainless. I'm just not a big fan of white on white, but do like the white appliances for our kitchen.
