Comments (0)Custom glass back-splashes offer you so many benefits other than their beauty and visual appeal. Glass back-splashes offer an easy to clean surface, especially behind stoves and sinks, that takes only a damp rag or sponge to get it clean. No more harsh chemical and tired arms from scrubbing those other back-splashes. In addition, glass back-splashes are heat tolerant so you won't have to worry about having it behind your stove - which will make for easier clean up!...See MoreBest way to clean grout?
Comments (69)Vinegar is a very weak acidic typical white distilled vinegar is at least 3% acidity and not more than 7%. Commercially produced vinegar has a virtually indefinite shelf life. Vinegar does not chemically bond to or alter or degrade in any way to sand, plastic, most tile or glass. Vinegar is sold in glass or plastic containers. Vinegar WILL react to wax, soaps, conditioners, body oils, scum and dirt. Note that grout is porous and will ingest these also. Vinegar will kill Serratia Marcescens which is a pink mold found in bathrooms. Different types of grout vary in porosity. Your tile (unless a special decorative or lime) will be unaffected by vinegar. Your grout will, in time, show effects and breakdown. The grout (and the sealers if used) will break down with the standard agents both for your personal hygiene and surface cleaning. Unless the grout never comes in contact with ANY substance or airborne it will need to be re-grouted in time. This includes steam and water. Will the vinegar hasten grout breakdown? Yes - As will scrubbing, soaps, oils, bacteria and other personal hygiene or cleaning products. At some point you will most likely need to re-grout. In the interim I prefer a clean stain free environment in my home particularly in my cooking and bath areas. Mostly importantly to me is that the chore of scrubbing is eliminated by a few spritz of vinegar....See MoreStained subway tiles from the 1926's? Can they be cleaned??
Comments (9)I think I saw an episode on Rehab Addict where she removed all the tiles and cleaned and saved what she could and then reinstalled blending in similar new tiles in a random pattern. Looked pretty good on tv but who knows what it looked like in person. The reality is that not everything old needs to be saved. You can find some new subway tiles in the "spirit" of the old design. 89 years is a good long run!...See MoreNeed help with River Stone tile floor - grout has molded
Comments (5)Sometimes to get mold to go away for long stretches (it is a spore = air borne = impossible to get rid of = don't even try) is to go to the BIG chemicals. Vinegar does very little to mold. And even less to keep it "away" for any length of time. I have added in a Mold and Mildew spray into my cleaning routine (which is VERY sad...and not very scheduled). Once/twice a year (when I get tired of seeing all the nasties) I will go ahead and use a Mold and Mildew cleaner. DO NOT mix-and-match these cleaners on the same day...or even a few days apart. You will get an exciting chemical reaction so DON'T DO IT. Follow the directions. These Mold and Mildew cleaners are designed specifically for this issue. A few times a year will see things go away for long periods of time (more than a few weeks). But a wet space is a wet space. Unless you stop showering or running the water in that space, mold and mildew will reoccur. You can't stop it but you can slow it down. All the major brands make a version...I seem to gravitate to the Tilex version. To each their own....See Moregardenspice
