Simple tropical theme table

It feels strange to post a tropical theme table now when its all about fall. I have even changed my tablesetting but I kept forgetting to upload these pics.

This was inspired by our trip to Hawaii but doesnt have the really bright colors that you would associate with Hawaii. :) The little tiki god I got on our vacation and the napkins are cut out of a sarong with turtles on it. :) The pineapple carafe or whatever it is is from Marshalls. The bamboo'ish' forks are from World market (50c each, yay!!). The rattan napkin rings and tray and the S&P shakers are from Walgreens!

I could not decide what to put in the centerpiece melon bowl.I tried floating candles in it but the bowl is a bird feeder (which I bought a few years ago because I liked it but havent ever found a good way to use it!) so it started leaking moisture. I tried putting hibiscus in it but it was blending too much with the bowl. If you have any ideas, do let me know.

That is just pretty cool looking!!! I LOVE the leaf placemats!! I would put cut up fruit in the bowl, and use it for a centerpiece with a few tea lights on top, and then have the fruit for dessert spooned on top of ice cream or vanilla pudding ;^) Two for the price of one!! You could even put a daisy or three in there if you put them in clean water pics.
    The table is very pretty!

How great! Love your leaf placemats and what a deal you got on that silverware! I love Jaybird's idea of fruit in the bowl--how about slices of watermelon--and the water pics with daisies tucked in would be darling! Such cute salt/peppers too. Very fun. Luvs

Love the bowl..too bad it can't hold anything wet..You could put some foam oasis in it, then stick the fruit in like Jay said. That way it isn't touching the bowl which is probably not food safe..
    Very pretty, MO!

    Mo,
Those placemats are great. Normally, leaf-shaped placemats are too plastic-y for me. I like the idea of palm leaf placemats for a tropical tablescape, but I don't like the plastic look. Now yours, I like. Like the way the veins are made with machine quilting. Are they reversable?
Also like the salt and pepper shakers. (I'm a sucker for theme S&Ps.)

Thank you ladies. The fruits idea is great, Jaybird. I will def have to try that next time. Maybe use something between the bowl and the fruits like Kathleen suggested.

OA, you are right - most of the leaf placemats are vinyl/plastic something which is why when I found these quilted ones, I bought a whole set. :) They are from Kohls. They are reversible. I bought them to use for my traditional festival tablesettings - for the festivals, people eat off of banana leaves and its no easy feat if you have lost touch btw.

Luvs & Jaybird, what are water pics? Are they like little vases?

That's a very pretty table. Maybe 3 short pillar candles of varying heights, for your bowl. I was trying to think of something that would allow the pretty pink to show, or maybe you could find a clear glass bowl that would fit inside it, then you could use your floating candles. - Gail

Enjoyed your table setting. Could you set your watermelon bowl on top of a glass pedestal and add crackers, cookies or whatever would go with your meal, around the outside edge? If you could find a red one, it would look good. I think it would be sad to cover up the inside seed look with food.

    Sweet.

I really like this, Mo. Your Tiki man is so cute! And I'm lusting after those placemats.

I bought some tropical looking bowls back in June and am still trying to gather enough stuff to do a tropical table. I'm on the hunt for some Tiki glasses that I used to see everywhere, all of the time - until I want 4 !!!!!

DS reminded me today that it was time to "do" Halloween!

So, I guess I will save tropical for a miserably cold winter day when I'm longing for Summer.

Mo, what a nice treat to see a tropical tablescape at this time of year. I, too LOVE those placemats! They really "make" the 'scape. That pinapple carafe is terrific and your watermelon bowl is wonderful too. I like all the ideas the others have come up with so you can use it to its full potential!

Wow - so many ideas for the watermelon bowl. I am just sorry I already changed the table or I could have tried some of your suggestions.

Gail, your idea of a clear bowl is totally inspired - that way the seeds will still be visible.

Betty, isnt that the way it is - I kept seeing beachy plates everywhere and when I wanted to get some I could not find a full set anywhere!! I think I saw some tropical looking glasses at the Dollar tree a while ago.

Phonegirl, I like your idea of elevating the bowl - I always end up with pretty flat looking tables without much height.
