My brunch table

While decorating for Fall, I decided to do a table and invite my three neighbor ladies over for brunch. Then I realized that I didn't have any Fall colored plates. I sorted through my placemats and discovered this set, then realized that I did have some dishes that would work with the colors in them. This is probably not your typical Fall table, but the ladies all loved it. Take a look. Luvs.

Luvs, your table looks wonderful! I love black and orange together - so striking! And it looks like Fall and Halloween tied together the way you have done it. I like your pumpkin bowls so much better than mine, yours are more detailed and a nicer orange. Your candle centerpiece goes well with your dishes too. Placemats are a "fun" touch. No wonder your neighbour ladies loved it! What did you serve?

You really put it all together like a pro. Looks great!! Did you make the ceramic dishes that look like leaves? Jan

That is beautiful Luvs....I'm jealous for your acorns! I have looked all over the country side and our acorn supply is limited to the 1/2" variety!

I just love black and white dishes, don't you! You can do so much with them. Just by themselves, they're great looking (and I love the octagon-round-octagon thing you've got going on). When paired with the orange pumpkins, you've created a classy, but casual tone. Put them wiith silver or gold items and you've got a more formal feeling.

Yes, tell us. What did you serve?

What a lovely table! I love the acorns too, and that leaf dish is wonderful. Can't wait to hear what the menu was...

Luvs, it looks great! I love how the black candelabra pops. Your neighbors must have felt very special!
    ( I wrote a big long post and lost it! :( )

Oh, Kathleen, I know that feeling--isn't it awful when you've typed a whole response then lose it? Aaargh!

Let me see if I can answer all the questions:

I was pleased to discover that I had those placemats since they had black, blue, orange, white and more colors in them. That opened up some possibilities for my meager dish choices.

The candleholder was a TS find, it was black and wood tone. I originally had thought about spraying it white and painting roses on it, but decided it would be good for Halloween if painted black. It's what allowed me to use the black plates and still pull the color throughout.

Those pumpkin bowls came from Nell Hill's in Atchison, Kansas last year. Nell Hill's is owned by one of our favorite author's, Mary Carol Garrity.

The gold leaf dish was a TS find, and the leaf votive holder was a gift from a friend last year.

The little acorns are faux, and I thought they were so cute. Found them at Home Goods a few weeks back. I used some of them in my little glass jars too. I am still wishing that I had collected the real acorns at one of the rest stops in Missouri on our motor home trip--and those wonderful cattail plants too! They both would have been wonderful for Fall decor.

Nothing special to eat, we just had huge muffins--apple spice and chocolate chip--and fruit salad. I had thought about an egg casserole, but I've had lunches with these gals and they are not big eaters so decided to keep it simple.

I still struggle with the napkins--would orange ones have been better? Where would YOU have placed the napkins? I'm just unsure about them each time I put a table together.

And the candles--I thought I wanted orange ones, but couldn't find any in the limited time I had so just went with the white ones from DT. Then I thought that was good because it pulled the white from the plates in.

These are the types of things I struggle with each time I try to do a table. That's why I love this forum so I can ask questions and you will all share your thoughts and ideas with me so I can make easier decisions on the next attempt. ;o)

Luvs-Your table looks great. I'm sure your neighbor friends felt really special. I struggle w/ the napkin placement too. The white ones look fine. Orange would have been OK too. Maybe you could have placed them across the plate and under the great little pumpkin (?). Just a thought.
Thanks for posting pics, thats what makes this place so great.

Luvs, it turned out wonderful. I am snagging one of the photos for our Fall Inspiration album. I sure can't tell you "struggled" with anything!! You have this table setting stuff down quite well I think.

(I'm still missing that dish gene looks like. I am totally lost at trying to do a tablesetting.)

I would have put the napkin......in my lap and then snatched a giant muffin!
It looks fine where it is!
