Halloween Display

Hi All...

After seeing so many of you ready for Halloween, I thought I'd better get to it.

Usually I put up a Big display on the Kitchen hutch, but this year I thought I'd do something different and smaller. I found a box of tiny wooden Halloween decos in a local Thrift Shop in town. It had the cutest Witches on Brooms, Ghosts, Cats, Jack-o's, Cats and Bats. All for $1.50 !!

So, that was my inspiration, and with the help of DH, we hunted down the perfect tree branch, to make this Halloween Tree, and display. I spray painted it flat black and mounted it in a large Halloween Can that I had.

The tiny tree decos get lost in the photos.

I love this little witch...you press under the box, and she moves and gives out this neat 'Witch Screetch'.. DH says it reminds him of someone....hmmmm

On top of my little cabinet... I love Vintage Halloween. This little guy reminds me of my oldest Gson, when he was around that age. I couldn't resist getting him.

We were cleaning out a supply closet at school and I found that metal Jack-o-lantern in a bag. Everyone said..' it's so old throw it out'.. I said 'No Way'... I love him!!

He's very happy now, and loves his new home!! He's also VERY collectable. His nose is actually a Whistle!

So now, I'd better get going and put some stuff outside too. I've been really lagging behind this year..

    Jane,

Not only do you have wonderful decorations, I love how they are displayed. What a neat tree -- it is perfect for that window.

Vintage decos have such a great look, especially the cardboard/paper items. The little boy standing on the pumpkin is precious, and I really like the rusty witch behind your whistle-nosed pumpkin.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Lee
P.S. Did you have the black down first, and then change it to orange? It all looks terrific!

Jane, that is wonderful! What a fun display! You really have the knack!
I love the tree, and that vintage pumpkin is great! Thank goodness you saved him!
Will your gkids come to your house before Halloween?
I have so many decos, but I don't put much out as they don't come.
I had thought I would have a little party for them , but then #3 broke his collar bone, and his bday party with his classmates had to be changed, so now there is no date good for them to come...maybe next year..:(

    Kathleen,

I'm sorry your little guy broke his collar bone -- our son broke his when he was about three years old.

Anyway, if you want to have a Halloween party for them, go right ahead -- the date does not matter. Tell them it is a special party at a special time just for them.

I don't do the Halloween thing anymore - I got rid of my big pumpkins and such a few years ago in a fit of cleaning. I just have some little odds and ends now. It sure is tempting to get some when I look at all these wonderful decos on here.

Jane, I just love the whole profusion of things that you've set out, seeing so many things all together, gives them even more impact.

The vintage things on top of your cabinet are wonderful. I really love the look. What a lucky find the metal jack-o-lantern was, a real treasure, and I love the rusty metal witch. - Gail

Thanks for such nice compliments Lee...and 'Good Eye' for detail!! Yes, I did change out the black cloth, for the orange. It just showed off everything so much better. I also added the old paper decos to the windows to sort of 'fill in'. That 'rusty witch' I got last year. It was just sitting on a shelf in a Thrift Shop. I like it too, and thought it looked different.

    Kathleen...thanks for the compliments.
I'm so sorry to hear about your Gson. They're so active and scare the dickens out of you. I agree with Lee...have a party anyway. I'm sure they'll love it.
My Gkids won't be able to come by. They have Full weekends, with Football practice on Sat, and Football games Sunday PM. They can't even sleep over on a Sat nite, because three of them have Sunday school and cannot miss One Day!! :(
Also, put your Halloween Decos out for You and DH to enjoy..
afterall, we're kids at heart too! Right?

Jane, love the vignette, I remember alot of your vintage statues from last year & just love them. The display has so much to look at, you have to keep going back for more!

What a great way to display your little decos--and what a fantastic find! I really like the way several of you are using the tree branches--I might have to look for some nice shaped branches and copy your ideas! ;o)

I agree, Kathleen, just decorate a bit for yourself even if no kids are coming to visit--just for the fun of it!

    Gail, Thank You !!
Glad you like all the Vintage things. That seemed to be such a nice era.

Yachter..so nice to know that you 'Halloween Queen' love my Vignette. You've got a good memory on last year's display.

Luvs.. I'd love to see you join in with your Tree. Maybe we could start a 'New Trend'...
It would be fun to see how differently, everyone decorates them.

    Jane,

You can just package everything up and send it to me--you can find more. And send it airmail--I need it now.

These things are so fabulous! I love this old stuff. The graphics are so terrific, compared to a lot of the sloppy art we see today. How ever did you find it all? And where did you learn to arrange it so wonderfully?

I love your decorations and the black tree lite up is great. That black cat under all of it that says Cat Crossing is pretty cool. He looks like he's up to something. Having so many things all together looks great but took me forever to check it all out.LOL

Gee whiz, Jane, I am SO glad you informed us you had done something smaller and how you were lagging behind this year!!! LOL. My word, Woman, you don't know the meaning of those words!
LOVE, LOVE, the tree idea. And those tiny wood decorations you found at such a SUPER price! I want to come live next door to you, and go shopping with you too.

I don't do hardly any Halloween decorations. Even tho all my grandkids live close, or rather the 4 littlest do, I rarely see them cause they and their parents are just "too busy". sigh. On Halloween all come over before starting their trick or treating rounds so we can see their costumes.
But I guess I really just decorate all the holidays pretty much for "Me". We never get more than 15-20 kids at the door either. Its such a quiet neighborhood.

I was in the neatest store today, a friend took me. All Y'ALL would love it. Its called Rust n Roses. Most everything is vintage. Great iron pieces but too pricey, darn it. Lots of little odds and ends too tho.
I saw a black twig wreath, and also a neat sparkly skeleton, and was so tempted to get them. Would have been just $15 for both. WHY oh WHY did I talk myself out of them? Now I need to go back and get them if they are still there next week. I did get a cute witch broom tho. And two little cloches!!! I've been wanting a couple of them to put together in a display, so I was very happy to find these. They are different, but should look good in a vignette. I loved that store and wished you guys were there to enjoy it too. So packed with stuff you had to walk narrow aisles thru it all, and keep your hands against your sides. Furniture, knickknacks, decor. Sooo much.
Anyway, Jane, now you have me really wishing I'd gotten the wreath and skeleton. LOL.

    hugs, Karen

I am soooo jealous of your vintage things, they are wonderful. Everything you have displayed is outstanding. I love the stuffed cat on the stool and all the little figurines. I hardly find any vintage Halloween stuff here and when you do it is outrageous. I did find a paper mache jack-o-lantern last week at an estate sell for fifty cents and yesterday at the fabric store I found two precious little iron crows. Half price. I don't know if everyone has H.Fabrics, but they have wonderful holiday decos and the fall stuff is all 50% off now. This not spam, just about the only place in a this tiny town to shop. We have no grandchildren around either, but we really put out a spread and special treats for the kids on our street, they come in for home-made treats and juice and the parents a bowl of Gumbo. Jane,
I was waiting for your Halloween decorations - I remember your lovely vintage decor from last year. And your displays are so beautiful. Love the tree with the little ornaments and all your gorgeous decor under the tree. You certainly have a knack for buying some cute unusual things.

Syble, those iron crows sound terrific. I haven't seen any iron ones! We don't have that store either, darn it. I saw some little iron birds yesterday but they were $20 each and I am not paying that much!

I've been looking at "vintage cards" on Flickr, to see if I could find neat Halloween or Thanksgiving ones to print out and frame. Found half a dozen I really liked. Wonder if you could cut out some of the vintage figures and glue them to poster board or cardboard and make your own decorations?

    hugs, Karen

    Thank you Bonnie..

    Magpie...you are toooo funny!
I can see them on your Mantel and they'd be real proud up there. I agree with the graphics on the old stuff. That era was really special with lots of special things. Today it's mostly 'Horror' stuff. but then again...Different Strokes..
As far as finding it all... over the years mostly on the Cape in the summer those little shops there have real neat stuff and reasonable too. As far as arranging them...I've always had a eye for decorating...Runs in the Family...
When I was working at my school, I wore 'Many Hats.. Teacher and 'Decorator' for the School. From school openings to Holiday Events... that was the most fun.

Karen...so nice that you liked my tree. Really... I am lagging..so many of you - steps ahead!
If you were 'My Shopping Buddy'...we'd be in BIG TROUBLE!! and probably Homeless!... but we'd have a Grand Homeless Place!! lol As far as you gettng 15 - 20 kids.. Out here I'd be happy for that! At the local school, they have what's called 'Trick Or Trunk'. People register to come into the School Parking Lot..they decorate their car trunks...and have their Halloween Candy in there. All the kids parade around the parking lot, going from car to car for candy. They do this because it's so rural. Nice idea tho. You should NOT have passed up that skeleton and wreath...see I would get you in trouble! I hope they have it next week. That shop sounds like something I'd really like. Lucky for you getting those cloches..that's something I haven't seen here. I'll be looking forward to your vignette.

syble... That was a great buy for that paper mache jack-o-lantern. You'd never find one for that price here EVER.
I did shop at Hfabrics in FL. I loved that store. Sadly, many of them closed. They did have really nice things and the best sales on their Holiday things. I think that's such a nice tradition that you do with kids and parents where you live. I bet they really look forward to that each year.

Mo...thank you...I'm flattered that you remembered my last year's Halloween.. that made me smile! Not as much this year...but I'm enjoying the tree.

    Thanks again everyone.

Jane, all of your things are just as cute as can be! I'm really beginning to like the looks of vintage things, and you have such a great display. Very nice!

Syble, you are so lucky to live in an area where you can still give out homemade treats--here in California the parents would probably throw any homemade goodies in the trash for fear someone was trying to poison their little ones! Sure has taken allot of the fun out of Trick or Treating for the little ones--I'm glad I grew up in a simpler time and have all those happy memories.

Jane, I may not get to do a tree until next year. No suitable limbs on the tree out front so I'll have to keep an eye out for one at friends houses or along the streets when we get our strong Santa Ana winds this year.

Jane, I've been having some computer issues lately and I hope this gets posted but I just had to say I love what you did with the great items you bought for $1.50 as well as what you already had! You put everything together in such coordinated vignettes, terrific! I will probably just do a Halloween tablescape at work for the staff room as I don't have that many Halloween decorations.
