For ours, I decided to have to go thru the bath to get to the closet for several reasons.

1. my DH leaves for work extremely early, and having him walk back and forth from closet to bath at 5am makes me very cranky!

2. knowing we wanted the rooms connected somehow, I realized I didn't want any guests walking through my closet if they chose to use our bath. Unlikely, but this way we don't have to worry about unmentionables strewn about. (I like my closet to be neat, but sometimes it gets messy, and DH is a slob!)

3. also, we tend to dress less often per day than we use the bathroom, so I wanted the bathroom more accessible.

4. we actually chose to have the entry to our bath in the entry vestibule to our master br so the br is even more private.

5. we are also putting the toilet in a private water closet (closest to the bathroom entry) so one of us can dress and the other can use the toilet in private.

We have 2 walk-in closets opening into a dressing room. The dressing room connects the master bath to our bedroom it also has a door opening onto the upstairs hall. The master bedroom also has a door opening on the upstairs hall. The three rooms function as a master suite and is our private space. The sleeping space is isolated from dressing and bath noise. IÂm not sure about mass appeal, but this layout functions very well for us.

sossh, your post pretty much tipped the scale. My Dh also leaves for work at 5 am and I am a very light sleeper. Closet in the bathroom is in my future :) I can hardly wait!
