Upright freezer recommendations

We are doing a laundry room remodel, and I finally get more freezer space! I'm looking for an upright freezer in the 15-18 cf range.

Do you have one that you love - or hate? Most of the freezers that I've researched have mixed reviews.

There are so many sales this week, it seems like the time to make a decision.

Thank you for any info.

We have a Frigidaire 11.5 cf made by Electrolux (#FFU1152DW4). I realize it's not the 15-18 you are asking for but you don't seem to have had any other takers. This is a no-frills stand-up model - doesn't even have an interior light. But it's quiet, and it simply works - has been running for seven years with absolutely no issues. We keep it downstairs in the combo exercise room/workshop.

One tip though, because the freezer is not attended to as often as a fridge, I've added a plug-In Power Failure Alarm to the same outlet as the freezer in the event that circuit trips. This is the one I bought but I'm sure there are others out there.

Thanks stevep2005! I will look at this product. There was only one model of freezer on the floor at HD yesterday, and it looked too big for the space, so I may need to reconsider the size. Just having the additional freezer space is going to be wonderful!

We have a CD FD fridge and while the freezer drawer access is fine, it does not have the capacity of a full size fridge. The extra freezer, even the relatively small 11.5, has gone from a nice-to-have to something we wouldn't want to do without. For us, the 11 turned out to be the right size, but we don't do bulk beat buying or the like.

Ya, it's just 2 of us and I don't really buy too much in bulk. But I do follow a restricted diet and cook at home almost every day. It would be nice to be able to cook ahead. And also take advantage of the growing season and freeze some things for later.

    Thanks again!

I am researching standalone freezers for a friend who doesn't have internet access, so am glad to find this thread!

She doesn't want a reach-in freezer because of back issues. She's also on a restricted diet (as am I) and prefers to make things ahead and freeze. So she's decided to put a separate freezer in another room so that she can load it up with her homemade baked goods and breads while using the fridge's freezer for things like frozen veggies, etc.

Is 11.5 cf considered a "small" freezer? My Samsung SbyS has an 11.5 cf freezer compartment and I find it too small, mainly because 2/3 of the door is taken up by that darn ice/water dispenser! My previous fridge was a GE Profile Arctica with no ice maker and I had plenty of room even though the freezer dimension was probably smaller. And I cook for just myself. :-/

Steve, how badly did the extra freezer impact your electric bill?
