Snow question.......

Have any of you ever used the fake snow that comes in cans? I'm just wondering how easy it is to use. Is it messy? When you spray it, does it just basically go everywhere (like spray paint does) or is it easy to basically spray it where you want it to go?

I have some fake pine branches that I bought at Michael's years ago, and I'd love to put some snow on them. But I only want it to lightly have snow, not big globs.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

I've used it on fake xmas tree branches & also for crafts when I did them. Just do it in the garage or ouside, put some newspaper under it & you can do a light spray & then keep adding til it's the way you like it.

I think it works well, not heavy globs, shake can well & keep it moving, don't stay in one spot too long or you will get heavy build-up or globs..

I put it on the window years ago and it took about a year to get off. Haven't used it since.

I would also do it outside or in the garage.

Dreamgoddess, I bought a can of it the other day at Walmart too, but I haven't tried it yet. I thought it might be good to have on hand in case inspiration struck. LOL

Here is a craft I did years ago with the fake snow on it.

    yachter123,
I like your snowman craft. He would fit perfectly in my collection. I think you need to send him to me.

Yacht, you crafty thing, that is adorable!

I put the fake snow on the outside of my bay window last year, just sort of around the edges for a frame. It came off pretty easy with one of those scraper things later on.
I haven't tried it inside tho. I was thinking of using spray adhesive and the diamond dust to try and gitter some some things. Not sure if that will work but will find out I guess. LOL

They still make this stuff? Cool. I haven't seen it in years.

My experience with it mirrors dd50's. Took forever to get it off glass, especially the over spray. (FYI, we were doing stencils on glass doors in an office when I used it.)

However, that's good news for your project. Do what yachter123 advises - you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly.

Yachter, that snowman is too cute! Thanks to everyone for the advice.

I went by Walmart this afternoon and they didn't have any of the snow. I don't know about the rest of you, but the WM here where I live just doesn't have much of anything for decorating. It's pathetic! I guess I'll check out one of the dollar stores this weekend.

I'm so glad to hear the snow sticks well...LOL! I'd hate to have it falling off all over the house.

Here is a photo of the centerpiece on my coffee table. I'd like to duplicate the look of these snowy pine branches. I found them this past weekend at Old Tyme Pottery. I'm kicking myself for not buying more of them and it'll probably be another month before I get to go back.

I'm not done with the centerpiece...still gots lots of tweaking to do. I'm not sure if I'll leave the roses. I may take them off and just pile up clear glass and pink ornaments around the candles.

If you want a snow crystal look on windows I've had success with painting on Epsom salts mixed with a little white wine to make a slush. I used it along the bottom and one side of the panes to simulate where snow would accumulate..it comes off pretty easily and looks like icy crystals...I swear I didn't hit the bottle of wine before or after the project...LOL

Another snow question...how long does it take the snow to dry and how well does it stick when it's dry? I bought some today and sprayed a couple of pine picks that I have. It seems like the snow just wants to rub off. I'm wondering if it's just not dry yet and that's why it wants to come off.

Hey, Yachter, you've been holding out on me, I didn't know you were a painter! Cute snowman. ;o)

Dreamgoddess, I think you should probably let it dry overnight before handling it. I sorta remember using it when I was in high school, but I think it was pretty messy. Your centerpiece looks really pretty. You know, I bet you could duplicate the look on your greenery by using the faux snow like Snow Tex or the other's that come in a bottle that are on the painting isle at Michael's. I've used those on alot of my painted items and you just brush it on with a paint brush. In your case, you could probably just dip the tip of a branch into it and let it dry. Just a thought. Luvs
