Dollar Store Decorating

Hi everyone,

I recently came across a post detailing some 'dollar store decorating' and showed it to our producers. You had some terrific ideas, and I'd like to ask for your help.

We'd like to put this into a slideshow type of presentation and would love to see your ideas. If you've created a tabletop or holiday decoration using dollar store items, would you share it with us?

Any questions, please email me.

Best,

Tamara

That sounds nice and very thoughtful. I'll have to look and see if I have any photos. I was thinking that it could be broadened a bit to something that would include thrift stores etc.. Maybe not restricted to the Dollar Store. Maybe like "High-End decorating on a Low-end budget" just a thought.

Hi Tamara, That's a cute idea, but the problem might be the fact that we mix our Dollar Store items with other items. For example, I used Dollar Tree faux pumpkins on candlesticks on my mantle, but the other things on it were not from the Dollar Store. Are you just looking for tablescapes or vignettes made up of only Dollar Store items? Luvs

Yes, it's a lovely idea, but it's true- there's a lot of mix and matching, and most of my things are thrift store settings. Equally cheap but won't qualify for the dollar store criteria.

I agree with the other ladies, my Dollar store finds are mixed with "other" items that are not "just a dollar".

I don't read it to mean all items have to be from the dollar store. Maybe Tamara could clarify. I did email her but no response.

    Hi gang,

I think what using either dollar or dime store items is fine -- and I know that it would be difficult to do an entire tablescape using just those items. So, a 'mix and match' approach is great. For instance, I recently put together some paperwhites in small tin buckets to use as gifts for a holiday party. The buckets and pebbles were bought on the cheap and I paid full price for the bulbs.

Be sure to describe what you've done -- it's always fun to be able to brag about how much you paid (or didn't pay!) for those 'finds' or that they actually came from the thrift store.

    Any questions, let me know!

Thanks for your reply tamara. I just think the term Dollar Store is a little mis-leading and might turn viewers off a bit (doesn't bother me) Some might not even step into one or admit it lol Maybe Cost Saving decorating or something.

I just bought 16 small Liberty Falls village pieces today at the SA Thrift store for $1 each. I even got a box of six miniature trees and two sets of 5 each little pewter figures for the same price. They are all in the boxes. They had almost another set of all of this. They are the small or miniatrue houses, but are very pretty. They show they came from Dillards at $5 each. They don't have lights or anything and aren't really a holiday village, but I think I will use them on a dresser in a guest bedroom. You can't beat the price.

I have never collected these before and have been picking up some of the larger lighted holiday village pieces for the past several months. I'll see what I can come up with for them as a display and post.

I keep reading about all these holiday houses, and keep wondering why someone couldn't make a darling centerpiece for a table with some. Wouldn't that be fun? Luvs
