Look What I Found

I can't believe that I just found this and didn't have a clue the value of it. This is why I leave tags on.LOL If my GM or DM wouldn't of left this tag on I would of never thought to look and see if it had more value than sentimental. It's Murano, madein Italy. What do you think it's worth? One just ended on Ebay like it for $900. Is this scary???

Does it look ok on my table?

Iam going to continue to clean and browse some of my other stashes. See what all of you do to me.haha

Oh wow, that is gorgeous! Do you have a Curio Cabinet? If not, me thinks you need to buy one! lol. And it's perfect for Fall and Thanksgiving!

The fine detail on it is amazing!

    Oakley,
Thanks, I don't exactly have a curio cabinet any more. I sold it to my DS for $25. I do have a very lg entertainment center and it has double glass doors with shelves and I do have 4 china cabinets. After finding this I done some more digging and came up with a few more things. Coffe jar was my GM's and will go nicely with my coffee pot and s & P shakers. The acron dish was given to me by DM years ago and will be great for Thanksgiving. The clear serving tray was DH GM's. McCoy vase was my GM and don't know how it survived without being tossed.

I can hardly wait to go out to the shop and start going through boxes that I didn't want back then. Amazing how the tablescapes and decorations by all of you has changed my mentality.

Jane I will be posting pictures of my dishes if I ever get all of them cleaned.LOL

Oh my Punk, you are on one heckuva treasure hunt. A very successful one at that. WOW...$900 for one on eBay? I'm afraid my sentimentality would end here and I'd be listing it myself. LOL. Thinking all the other goodies I could buy with that kind of money. LOL. Plus I'd be afraid to even display something that valuable.
I can't wait to see what you find next.

    Karen,

I wish I had never tried to find out if it was valuable because I agree with you. It should be sold if it's worth that kind of money and I could do alot of shopping alright. However, there is 6 children in my family and I wouldn't feel right keeping all the money if I was lucky enough to get that. However, a gift is a gift. I don't know.

We all need to make sure family is aware of things like this. I'm almost sick to my stomach thinking about this and knowing what was already thrown away. We still have boxes packed from 2002 that need to be gone through. I'm sure this sort of thing happens all the time.

My dear friend who has collected Royal Doulton for years kept bugiing me to check and see what my dishes were worth. From the moment she seen them she was in awe. Wait till I show her this birdie!

I will just quit thinking about it and move on. Punk

That's funny! My mom is always threatening for my sister & I not to get rid of all of her good stuff at a yard sale when she's gone! She has so many things, I'm going to have to tell her to start putting stickers on them to let us know what's what!
    That's amazing - $900!
I just started looking at some of the pieces I got from my grandma. None are expensive, but sentimental, and I'm already of thinking of ways I can use them to decorate and make them my own.
Nice finds from your own stash!

    Cindy,

I'm still so excited that you posted your table. I know that after doing one, I will try again. I don't have Christmas dishes but will think about trying my dk green ones. Isn't is amazing how it grows on us? With the help from everyone here it would be crazy not to try.

Back to my find. I use to tell my kids they better not bring in big dumpsters when I pass and now I know why. How do you know if things are expensive or not? The only reason I looked at this was it had the sticker on it and it is so heavy. With that kind of price I would think it would be out of this world.LOL Hopefully someone else will know something about it and post.

Nothing is more precious than coming from a loved one. I wish I had realized this years ago. I've gotten rid of alot of neat things. I didn't have enough storage years ago so that's my excuse.

Punk, actually I'm concerned with my family over some of my Whippet-Greyhound statues. I never paid much for them, and some pricey ones I inherited from a friend who died in 2000 when she was 90. My kids and DH know NOTHING about the value of any of these things. So I am slowly recording photos and all info on them in a special notebook. My kids use to think my collection was just 'stuff' and now they've come to learn a lot is really valuable. One statue I inherited, the lady paid $200 for way long ago. A porcelain from Vienna. I just found its now worth almost $1000. About had a heart attack on that one.
The last few months I've been working on selling some of my collection since its over 300 pieces. I want to pare down to about half, if I can "let go". I want to lessen the load on my family if something happens to me. AND I like the idea of knowing where some of its going, especially if friends are adding mine to their own collections. I am not making money off friends, just mostly getting back what I paid. I will list stuff on eBay in the near future tho, and hope for some good bidding. Anyway, this has given me some peace of mind on my collection. (and some spending money for other stuff as you've noticed, LOL).

    hugs, Karen

Oh My Punk..I can't believe you had that and didn't realize it. What's more amazing, is that you say you have so many boxes filled with things and are not sure what's in them!
By all means, find out exactly what you have and it's value. They do have people who will appraise what you have, but you have to do some research (Ebay), to educate yourself. You don't want to get ripped off.
I know a couple here, who do estate sales..there's lots of work involved, researching the value of everything, before it's put up for sale. They get a precentage of what is sold.

So many times, kids will throw out 'Old' things when they're clearing out the homes of family members, not knowing what they're doing...just thinking it's old junk.
I too have told my daughter that none of my 'Old Stuff' is junk..find out first.
Karen has a good idea on taking photos and keeping a notebook on everything. She does have me thinking and, it would make it easier for family.

Punk...I can only imagine whats 'tucked away' in those boxes of your... 'Happy Shopping'...lol
