subzero pro 48 or regular sub 48

We are having a tough time deciding between the pro and regular subzero 48 inch fridge/freezer. The regular is much cheaper but the doors don't open that wide. The Pro doesn't have this problem but it's big drawback is no door shelves. Have any subzero owners felt the doors do not open wide enough? Do the Pro 48 owners miss not having door storage?

Thanks,

Why not compare other 48 Fridges, when we did our kitchen, we had a friend that insisted we get a SZ, He always wanted one but He had "Champagne taste" and a "Beer Budget". Budget was not a problem for us. I was all set to buy it at Pacific Sales, but I happened to walk around the store a bit more and look at some other fridges, ran into the Jenn-air, it was better lit, had better shelves some with crank adjusts, and we liked the digital controls and readouts--You can set The main Fridge at one setting, The Chrisper at another and the Meat Keeper still at another.
We like the variable speed compressor that now Liehberr is just beginning to tout on theirs. Also the top of the JA could be panelled whilst the SZ had to have it's "Gills open" (Not so the case today but recall we are talking about 2005-2006). We also checked Consumer Reports for RELIABILITY (Not their overall rating of the Fridges)--as people will tell you CR is biased againt the higher end brands--so we just looked at reliability reports submitted by CR Reader's actual experiences as far as reliability of the 2 brands. Much to my surprise JA was at the top and SZ if not at the bottom was close to it. Anyway his "Champagne taste" just didn't quite jive with ours and were glad we shopped around!

Now this was the World in 2005-2006 and could be completely different today??? The Only reason I mention the above at all, is I did look around a bit, Saved some money (not really one of my goals at the time), but we got a fridge that has been trouble free, quiet and at least has the features that were important to us (and still are)

Good Luck with whatever you decide!

I have a pro48. I do not miss the door shelves. Mine was a floor model so was the same price as a regular 48. It's one of my favorite parts of the kitchen. It did require some initial organization. We belong to a farm share and it keeps the produce fresh much better than any other fridge we've had.

One thing to think about with the door shelves is that the door shelves do mean smaller interior shelves, so you will have less room to put catering trays, or big veggie trays from the supermarket.

Thanks for the replies. As far as SZ vs Jenn Air, I won't argue about quality, functionality, reliability etc. It is more a function of the price point on our house and what would be expected for appliances if we need to sell someday. I have watched too many hgtv shows where potential buyers comment about the brand of appliance and house price.

Yes I did not take resale value into account on our decisions, We just got what we wanted and what we thought was the best appliance for "our Use". We intend to leave our house, (which we bought new in 1975), "Feet First" and we are probably a bit older than You too, So we figgered get what we enjoys, Now, Ya know what I mean.
I hope you are able to work out what best suits your needs, and hopefully it facillates your resale in the future.

The thing I didn't like about the Pro when I looked at a few years ago was the frozen food bin above the ice drawer. It had holes in the bottom and debris would get in your ice. Maybe they have fixed that. I do like the shelves in the door-much easier to stay organized and less likely for stuff to get lost in the back.
