Natural Elements Tablescape

I have missed participating on a more regular basis here on Holidays but have been busy of late and now with Christmas coming, I'll probably be even more so. I enjoy reading all your posts though. I thought I'd share a recent tablescape I did prior to putting it on my blog since I know not all of you follow blogs. I see the font is larger and I hope the pictures come across okay.

This week, my aunt wasin town visiting my mom so I decided to  have a family get-together dinner. Since I still had all my fall decor up I went with that type of  tablescape. This time, I resisted the urge to use my pumpkin bowls and went with an earthy natural theme.

For the centerpiece, I used two large and one smaller hurricane shade/vase. The two larger hurricanes are from Partylite a couple years ago.

A close-up of Mr. Turkey.

(HomeSense half price at last year's sales)

Chestnuts surrounded the bases of the white pillar candles in two and in the other one, I placed popcorn kernels. I tucked three large faux acorns in amongst the vases. A variety of faux grass type stems were laid lengthwise.

(Mosaic candleholders are from the Global Fusion series at Partylite)

This is the view of the centerpiece from the opposite side of the table.

My gold-rimmed white dishes and copper coloured chargers went well with the brown/gold tones of the table linens.

Dinner consisted of Russian/Mexican Chicken, Brown Rice, Green Pepper Steak, Tossed Green Salad, Carrots, Corn and Quick Black Forest Cake with Ice Cream for Dessert. When I am scrambling to get the food on the table, I rarely think to take a pic of it but later I always wish I would have thought of it. I need some lessons from Kathleen at Cuisine Kathleen in that regard!

As a Part Two to that tablescape....

I bought these deep purple glass dessert dishes today at a local antique store (though not antique).Â

I got 10 of them for $32 which is just pennies over $3/each which I thought was a good deal.

Of course, when you have something new on hand you want to try them out so I added them to the tablescape I still had set up.

I think the dark purple tones go well with the dark browns.

Shook things up a bit more and put the individual votive holders inside the dessert dishes.

Looks pretty but a dessert would probably be better!

This is one of my favourite fall themed serving bowls. See the detail in the bottom with the acorns and leaves.

(white marks are from the flash which I needed to capture the detail)

It was hard to get a good picture but the outside edges also have acorns, leaves and pumpkins all around. I used this bowl a lot for my Thanksgiving and fall table settings.

Time to move on to Christmas...although I'm dreading hauling all those tubs of Christmas decorations out of the basement....

I think that's very cool! and your table looks beautiful and elegant.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but with full table settings and decor like this, how do you handle actually serving the meal and the serving dishes? Does someone serve the table and remove the food, or do you use a side buffet?

DD, this is gorgeous! Love all the candlelight and the items you put around them--especially those big ACORNS! You even have a wonderful acorn bowl--luv it!

Those dessert dishes were a good find, and just look how they sparkle with the votives in them! Everything looks really really nice.

    DD,

An exquisite setting as usual! I love brown tones and think your purple dessert dishes are just perfect. How do you handle all that and such good food, too? That great food is the only thing that could make your 'scape more appealing!

What a beautiful and elegant table! I love all the natural elements, and the mosaic candleholders are so pretty. I love all the sparkle. I don't think I've ever come across your blog before. Visit me if you get the chance: http://tammy518-mamaison.blogspot.com/

What a gorgeous table! I love all the touches, natural and lovely.
Those purple compotes would be great with my purple toile dishes..what a find..The china is just lovely!
Thanks for showing us this beauty!

Stunning, elegant, and your usual fantastic photography as well. While Luvs drools over the acorn bowl, I'll do the same over the purple glasses. LOL.
I'll have to look at the photos over and over, and over, before all the detail sinks in. So much to see! I will just never understand how you do it.

Donna, thanks for your compliments! Glad to see you hanging out here on Holidays after "meeting" you on Flickr!

Jane, thanks so much! While I usually love using all my plastic/ceramic/faux fall decorations, I was also happy with how the more natural elements looked on the the table, course there were still lots of faux things!

Yachter, thanks! "Earthy and Elegant", I like that!

Party_music50, thanks for the compliments! Serving the food at my tables is a "pain" and I wish I had a maid to do it! What usually happens is that I bring each dish from the kitchen, guests pass and help themselves and then I put each dish back in the kitchen (very close by). My DR is too small to have a side buffet but I would love one.

Luvs, thank you! I thought you might like the acorn items - the ones by the hurricanes are really big and heavy. I was very happy to find that acorn bowl at a local grocery store for $10 last year.

Shee, thanks! One guest jokingly asked if the popcorn might start popping being so close to the candle!

Magpie, thanks so much! I wish I enjoyed cooking as much as I do setting the table! My food doesn't add much to any of my tablescapes like Kathleen's does!

Tammy, thank you! I will check out your blog. I am fairly new to blogland and usually only get a post together about once a week for Tablescape Thursday on Between Naps on the Porch. Work gets in the way of all the fun stuff I want to do!

Dream, thanks! I take that as a real compliment coming from you who does such beautiful 'scapes!

Kathleen, thank you! I am remembering those lovely purple toile dishes and you are so right! My new compotes would be perfect with them...course, I'd want YOU to fill them with one of your fabulous desserts!

Karen, thanks! I admit I forgot about how you would love the purple compote dishes! I'll let you know when Kathleen whips up a dessert for us and you can try one out! LOL!

DD, as usual your table is perfection. I can't add anything that hasn't been said. Lovely. I am glad someone asked about the serving issues, I always wonder how people manage. I bought a small tea cart on wheels and put is close to my seat during dinner parties and pass the food, it saves a lot of trips. It has space to stack used dishes on the bottom. Then I roll it to the kitchen, unload it and store it out of sight. This works well for my friends, but my family really hates all the extra dishes, so sadly I don't use anything but the basics with them. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Wow, it's beautiful, DD! The gold and copper with the white and then your natural elements makes for such a warm, inviting table. It glows! Love the amethyst footed bowls and tea lights, too. I'm remembering that idea for my own table . . . thanks! I'm going to use it with my gold footed bowls.

Syble, thank you. Your idea of a tea cart sounds great! Do you find there is enough room for all the serving dishes on it? I don't want to get something that I have to find room for and then still be jumping up and down. Thanks for the suggestion though and I will have to keep my eye out for something that would work.

Jay, thanks! I am thrilled that anything I put together can be used as an inspiration to others.

Lynn, thanks for the compliments. I'm sure your gold footed bowls will look wonderful used in a similar manner. Of course, I want to see how it turns out so be sure to post a pic or two!

Dining Delight, as always your table is gorgeous. I collect purple glass, most of it vintage, and have never used it as part of my tablescapes (which aren't as wonderful as yours, but I'm trying!). I think this Thanksgiving that will change, I'm going to go for it.

Could you post a link to your blog? I thought I had it bookmarked, but can't find it.

    Thank you!

Someone once said, "You can't have too many candles on your table." Well, if someone didn't say that, then you can attribute it to me because that's what I've been thinking since I looked (and looked and looked) at your pictures.
    It's beautiful!

    Oh DD!!

I remember all of the beautiful tablescapes you shared with us last fall. I especially loved the ones for 2 by the windows.

I was looking forward to seeing what you had created this year and you didn't disappoint!
This one is better than any I've EVER seen in a magazine!

I love the layers of nutural colors, starting with the linens. I'm wanting some of those large acorns, but I've not been able to find any around here. Your mosaic candleholders are jewels that add just the right amount of sparkle along with all of your glassware.

If y'all keep using that mercury glass, I'm going to have to break down and buy some. It really brightens a table up more so than the plain clear glass votives.

Mr Turkey is delightful! He is so natural looking. I LOVE his color.
I was looking with my tongue hanging out, drooling all over the screen, and then you knocked my eyes out with those purple compotes!!

    WOW!!!

What a punch of color! That really took it up a notch and added the cherry on top!!

Umm... Could I borrow your pale gold goblets? I need them for a tablescape. LOL

Can't wait to see how you top this!

You did it once again,DD! It's a marvelous tablescape! Really! So stylish and class. What a wonderful place to eat a family dinner - well, you could even invite those called "the people" as this table is a first class one!
