Many interior modifications to

After looking at thousands of house plans, my wife and I keep coming back to the plan linked below. We love the exterior and believe it would complement the land that we have bought (flat lot about 120 ft wide). Our problem is the interior. There are many interior modifications that we would like to do. We have spoken with the architect who says they are doable. We feel if we design the inside the way we like it, it might not 'flow' right. Has anyone else dealt with this same issue? If so, how did you handle it?

Has anyone built this plan? If so, please post some pictures.

thanks

Yes, the elevation looks pretty. I'm not crazy about the interior either.

Do you need five bedrooms? If so, how about bigger ones and no two-story spaces? That LR is so small and tall that it might resemble a service elevator.

Agree completely with ChiSue! That's a lot of bedrooms to cram into that space, and combining some of those rooms would make all of them more inviting.

Master Bath and Bedroom 2 are both cramped looking. Could you move the exterior wall out a foot or two? That would also make the living room larger.

If you're using your existing furniture, I'd suggest laying masking tape on the floor or out in the yard with the room dimensions and furniture dimensions to make sure the rooms are large enough.

I'd agree some of the rooms are just too small, and in addition to that, I have a couple other issues: you'd be able to see the entrance to the master from the front door, and people couldn't go from the upstairs bedrooms to the bath without being in full veiw of the foyer. A basement garage just seems like a bad idea to me-- a really bad idea.

The front elevation is good, But if it were me, I'd copy the basic elements of that, then design an interior that suited my needs a bit better.

We had the same problem with our plan. So we kept the exterior we liked and found a different plan with the interior we liked better. We made a number of changes, so we took it to an architect with both the drawings and had him tweak it to our liking. By going in to the architect with our plan basically drawn out to our liking, it wasn't terribly expensive for the custom plans.

Both of the plans we worked from were on the Southern Living House Plans site.

The house plan I chose after loosing parents is a different house plan than I would have selected even three years ago. A master (or a room that can be converted to a master) on the first level is VERY important. Also, views from the bedroom were major in selecting my house plan. We are also making sure that all doorways to the master, laundry, kitchen, entrance/exit doors, are handicap accessible. Even if you plan to sell the house, I feel confident that with our aging society these features will appeal to buyers.....just a suggestion.
