Bathroom Vanity Knobs/Handles

Hi - I am in the process of building a house with five bathrooms. Each bathroom's vanity is a different color. I would like to minimize my decision-making at this point and purchase handles/knobs that would look good with any color. The bathrooms have so much color already that I don't think adding any more color in the knobs is a good idea. Advice, please!!! Also any websites that show good examples would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!!!!

Are all your faucets the same color, like chrome? Then simple chrome knobs/pulls would be fine. I also don't think you could go wrong with a plain round knob in white porcelain. Both also have the side benefit of being very inexpensive - they are often available in bulk packs at hardware stores and home centers, and eBay is an excellent source too. I bought very nice, heavy chrome-plated solid brass knobs for {{gwi:1469933}} for less than $1 each on eBay.

There's also the builder route of just using the same hardware as you have in the kitchen. I personally don't like the look but it is not uncommon and it IS very easy, so I thought I would throw it out there. You are probably already getting a quantity discount on your kitchen hardware if the kitchen size is commensurate with a house with five bathrooms, you might get an even bigger discount by fitting out the bathrooms with the same.

However, knobs and pulls are like jewelry for cabinets - they just finish the whole look off. So I would suggest getting something simple (and cheap) for now and then, down the road when you're less overwhelmed, seriously considering getting more decorative hardware that suits each specific bath/vanity. You can do each bathroom as you feel like it.

Thanks so much - your bathroom looks beautiful - I'm just not sure if chrome would look as nice with color vanities as it does with wood. Also are knobs better than handles in bathrooms? Or does it not matter?

Chrome goes with any color - think of the fabulous cars of the Fifties and Sixties with their intense colors and loads of shining chrome! Or the Northstar retro appliances - candy-apple red, robin's egg blue, seafoam, Pepto-pink - or the high-end Lacanche range? While it may seem funny to consider a car or a stove for color inspiration, you take your inspiration from whence it comes. (BTW, my vanity with the chrome knobs is painted, not stained. Ben Moore "Bittersweet Chocolate". I have the same knobs on the oak wall cabinet in the powder room, which is kind of ugly so I don't show it to anyone ;-) and I don't think it looks anywhere near as nice.) If your cabinets are already in place, or if you have color samples of their finishes, swing by a Home Depot or Lowes and pick up a few chrome knobs and pulls of different styles. Just save your receipts so you can return the ones you don't like.

As for knobs versus handles, it is totally and completely a matter of personal preference. Some people find handles easier to grasp and pull, some prefer knobs.
