fake tree question

well, I want to make the leap from real tree to artificial this year (my grown and out of the house son is STILL going to be mad). Just got back from walmart, where I bought a $78 no light tree because it was the right size and full. I bought this also because it said just put in each of three sections and voila. Well, no.....it's put in every branch of every section first and THEN voila. I'm artificial tree stupid.....

My question: are there any 7.5 ft trees out there where you don't have to put in every blasted stem? Before I get into this mess, I would just return it in favor of an easier set up.

Sure, lots. I think most in that size will have three different sections that you put together, but the branches are already attached and hinged. You do have to spend some time fluffing and bending the branches to get them to look natural, but it does save some time and aggravation over the kind you bought. I'd return it, there's lots out there that are better. Most of them come pre-lit, it may be harder to find one that's not if that's your preference.

I just saw a Martha Stewart tree at K-Mart that came in three sections and the branches are on hinges that just fold up when you put it away. I asked one of the guys working in the Christmas section day before yesterday. It was 7' ot 7.5.

I'm sick of putting in branch by branch rows of the tree I have that I got at Sears. I'm too old for that now! My daughter has to do it for me.

They all have their good and bad points. My sister just asked me about cleaning one that had gotten dirty (they had a fire and it was really just dusty). I used to take my 3 section one and clean it in the tub. Just use a bit of soap with water in the tub swish the branch in the water, I turn on the shower and rinse it but you can take it outside and do same with a bin. shake and let dry and it is nice and clean. My DD has a hinged one with lights and frankly it was harder to put up than my 3 section one with loose branches. I take mine apart by section and rubber band all the colors together. Cannot be easier to me. Tho the lights are a bit consuming. I put my tree on a lazy susan and just turn it around as I go. But then I decorate right up until Christmas..might be putting on tinsle on Eve.

Prelit are very heavy but you don't have to mess with the lights unless they go out.

It is hard to find one with out lights anymore. I did have one that wasn't prelit and didn't have hinges but had the wiring like the tops of the trees. I bought that 8 or 9 years ago in a Christmas Tree store after Christmas. I gave it away on free cycle and sorry I did because now I have a prelit which is very heavy but not as full.

One good thing about the one where you stick in the truck as you can open it up a little before you put it on the tree.

You may want to go check out Lowe's as they have all the trees 50% off already.

Walmart has some pretty nice ones that are reasonable. They do come with the lights though, but they're in 3 sections and they're hinged. You just fluff out the branches.

Jessie, Hopefully this will help a little.

I caved in this year and purchased a new Pre-lit tree. I went to Kmart, they had this tree from GE for sale for $158. I am pretty satisfied with it. It has the new rubbery tips that look rather real, along with the normal "silk" tips on the inside part of the tree. Now, this tree is a 6.5, I know you asked about a 7.5, they did have a 7.5ft tree at Kmart too, but the 6.5 works out best for me with only having 8ft ceilings. This tree is very easy to set up, and is not too heavy to put together (3 pieces) and I did it alone (only 5ft tall myself, so if I can handle it I would think most would be able too.)It also has the foot control, but I do have a remote control for items in my house so I will probable use the remote.
The remote is the package on the right, you can purchase at Target or Walmart.

A little tip, I purchased this large green plastic disk (below photo) years ago, it makes it really easy to slide the tree around while decorating it, or even if I had to move it, it glides easily, glided well on carpet too when I had it. (excuse my horrible floors, eventually I will have them redone with ceramic tile.) If you can't find something like this, I have used sturdy flattened out cardboard under the stand before to slide tree around when I did not have the plastic disk.
Here are a few pictures of my tree set up.

Part one: One branch flopped down, starting the "fluffing"

Pic 2:the bottom part of the tree all fluffed, with the middle put into the rod and ready for fluffing.

    With the lights on:

    Middle fluffed:

The 3rd top part of the tree put on, so now it is all fluffed out, it looks pretty good I think, I still had a bit of fluffing to do, but you get the idea. (excuse the dry wall work in the background, my house is in the painful stage of being "fixed".)

Thank you all for the suggestions.

judithva, oh how I wish I had seen your post before I ran back out to get a different tree and set it up. I would have found something to put under it before assembly....as it is, I need to move the tree a bit and it's nearly impossible (on carpet!)...i'll get hubby to help later hopefully. i also may have been smart enough to "fluff" the branches one section at a time as you did...what a pain it's been to do it when the tree is already put together.

In our area, trees are just about sold out already! I do LOVE the ones that are rubbery, like you have but the only one that would have worked for me was on sale for 299...way too much! So, I bought a "silk" martha stewart....was hoping for a no light one, so I could do my own and change them when I want to, but those were all plug in each stem trees. so, I now have a 7.5 ft. pre-lit. not yet decorated but shining brightly!!

thanks to your suggestions, next year it will be much easier!

You are welcome Jessie. If you are putting on lights yourself, make sure you put them on in the stages of the tree (most trees have 3 stages, top, middle and bottom, start on the bottom section and then do the middle and last the "topper" section.) If you end your lights with the plug connecting end at the upper inside of each section, you will be able to LEAVE the lights on for next year, when you are ready to take down your tree, just unplug each ending section (just like the pre-lit trees), that way you can store the sections of your tree with the lights still on it just like the fancy store-bought pre-lit trees. Make sure you attach your lights just like the store bought style, go up and down the branch, (see the first photo in my post above) then head over to the next branch, so on and so on. DO NOT just wrap the tree in circles. Hope that makes sense.

Another tip. When you are taking down your tree and have pushed up each section of branches, just tie up each section with twine, or use bungie cords there fore "enclosing" each section, that way everything is orderly when you go to store it and put it up next year. Hope this helps

As if two wasn't enough I bought a THIRD tree this year (YES John agreed to have an artificial tree!!!!). One of the things I did on one of them was to take one of the little branches (not sure that would be the correct description of it) and twist it around the metal part of the bigger branch (close to where the hinge is) so as to make it less noticeable.

One of the things I have noticed is that the two that I put up don't seem very stable once they are decorated. I did see on a TV show where they put the stand in a large flat bucket and filled it with rocks so it would be more difficult to knock over. However, I didn't see this show until AFTER I had put up both threes.

What did I do with the third three? I gave it to my daughter.
