Do I need a tablecloth?

Greetings, everyone, here are a few pics of my Christmas tablesetting for my girls only lunch with a few friends coming up this weekend.

Do you think I need a tablecloth? Also, note that originally I had the dining table centerpiece on the side table. Which do you think works best?

In other suggestions on the table would also be welcome!

This is where I put the small tree on the dining room table at first

Now it's here as dining table centerpiece (try to block out the desk and chair!):

And this is what the side table looks like:

Thanks a lot!

My gut feeling is to switch the two centerpieces - you don't want to be talking to your guest through the tree - the basket looks low enough to not interfer with conversation. Everything is really very pretty. I absolutely love the red/gold combination, placemats are very pretty as are the candle stems and the balls around the tree are gorgeous - very very nice .....

It is a very pretty table. I love all the red and the placemats. Lynn has a good idea about switching the pieces. They are both good, but you don't want your guest's vision blocked by one that is too tall. As far as a tablecloth, it depends what you're going for. A white tablecloth would contrast w/ your placemats and make them stand out more. A red cloth would blend and coordinate w/ your tablescape. I wouldn't use one w/ a busy print. Have fun at your party!

Yeah, I thought white for a tablecloth too, but I'm wondering if it looks bare without one? I'm going to switch the center pieces and re-post.

    Thanks for your help!

I agree with everyone else. Personally, I'd opt for the plain white table cloth. No pattern on it at all to distract from the placemats and everything else you have on that gorgeous table!

I think it'd really show everything very nicely.

I didn't mention a tablecloth because I think your table has a wonderful warm honey glow to it and just blends perfectly with your other colors but if one were to be used plain white would probably be my choice ....

I've been thinking... (watch out!) I wonder what 2 crisscrossed white runners would look like? You wouldn't be covering up that beautiful wood but I think it would show off the placemants.

Great changes, pdg77! They both look more at home :)

I love your table, doesn't need anything more. The colors of the fruit in your basket go with the placemats and napkins perfectly. I love the design on your china too, such a pretty, happy little scroll. ;o) Those are gorgeous placemats too. The tree and ornaments look just perfect on the side table too. You did a great job with all of it. Luvs
