Hey there- Did you ever figure this out? We're looking at the GE gas on glass cooktop, and while I don't expect to break it (I break things elsewhere :-), I do worry about it a little. And how much is the replacement glass? Thanks!

We broke the g;ass cooktop on our electric GE Profile cooktop. The new one was over $700, so I looked on ebay and found that Whirlpool posts items in their warehouses that are discontinued. I purchased a new Whirlpool Gold cooktop for under $600, that fit pretty well. The GE was about a quarter of an inch deeper so we had the installer put a strip of hardwood in as a spacer. Works about like the GE but is less substantial. I just couldn't see paying someone to install a $700 Ge glass top or paying about $1300 for a new one.
