I would be very careful about this promise -- if he installs the windows they cannot be returned and he will be spending a lot of money on new windows. If he rejects them as the wrong thing, then he won't have to buy new ones (perhaps). I would be very cautious in letting him install.

That's a pretty major screw-up. I wouldn't allow them to be installed.

Not sure what kind of windows you got but I'm pretty sure that on most brands, you CAN'T replace the glass in order to put the inserts between the double panes. On Jeldwen and Pella at least, the space between the two panes is filled with a special gas that cuts down on the amount of heat transfer. Call the window company you got them from and find out if what your contractor is saying he will do is even possible. If not, there is no point in letting him get any further along if he just going to have to pull these windows out and replace them.

Good luck.

A friendly "hi" to huskergirl....

I was wondering what happened. I know I would be terribly frustrated, especially since you mentioned rain getting in your basement. Hope to hear that everything was resolved to your satisfaction.

You should insist on new sash or get surface mullions applied to the existing sash. New glass should be installed at the factory.

From my own experience and from reading this forum for the last five years I feel pretty confident that your GC has no plans on doing anything with those windows. Figure out what is acceptable right now. Having the wrong windows installed or waiting for the right windows.
