OMG! I ordered the tile!

So now I'm hoping people can talk me down off the ledge... (no need to call 911, it's a proverbial ledge!)

See, the tile isn't at all like what I've been carrying around in my head all these months of planning. I envisioned something more like a tumbled travertine for my tiny spa-inspired bathroom. Saw just the stuff at Home Depot! BUT I didn't want real stone. And so began the quest for a porcelain that would look "just like that".

Many tile samples later (and *many* messages on my "Too many tile choices" thread! thanks, everyone!), I placed an order yesterday for Ilva Pietre Travertine in Bianco. The border will be a random brick in mixed light and noce colored travertine (possibly enhanced).

It's beautiful tile. No doubt that it's beautiful. But it's lighter-colored, not at all shaded, and generally much more elegant/refined than... well, than I am. ;-)

So what was wrong with all of the other choices? That's the question that got me into trouble this morning! I suddenly started thinking maybe I should have gone with the Emil Marrakesh, even though I previously rejected it for being too cold a color, too much color variation between tiles, and too much potential for putting it up on the wall and saying, "oops - mistake!!!" OTOH, it *is* a much more *interesting* tile. :-)

I'm not really going to call the store and say, "Hey, did you place that order for the Ilva yet? Uh, maybe we should hold off a day or two. Yeah, I know my reno is starting in less than two weeks, but you know, I really need to come in and take another look at the Marrakesh." I'm not really going to do that.

Right???

Definitely right!!! That's it!!! No more wavering...LOL! I do have to say though, I'm a little disappointed you're not going with the glass mini brick. It's so inexpensive, and has a much higher end, nicer look I think than all stone which can be a bit drab. I do love stone mixed with metals and glass. Adds a bit of sparkle which is needed in a small space.

If you're doing that to use any towel color, reds, yellows, orange and maybe rust still don't go, where you can use all shades of cream and beige and rust, and all your green shades--warm and cool with the glass. Your blue and green towels you wanted to use when there's no color like that to pick up, don't work with all stone!

Okay, I'm going to order the samples of the glass tile off ebay! (Didn't actually order the border tile yet since I wasn't sure whether I wanted the mixed travertine or the noce. But I do need to resolve this quickly!)

    :-)

Wahoo!!! Good for you!!! I think the tile will look great with the random brick in either mixed or noce - I think my preference would be for the mixed, but that is me. That color scheme is quite similar to the one I picked out for my downstairs powder room. I actually picked up my tile today and just got finished opening boxes and laying stuff out all over the floor.

For me personally, I wouldn't want the glass mini brick. I don't care for the looks of that mix. With the all stone look, you can pull in very rich or very neutral colors depending on the look you are going for. If you go with softer greens, aquas, etc. you would have a very peaceful, spa look going to the room. But that's just me.

I am thrilled!!! Can't wait to see your tile. When do you get to pick it up?

The ebay vendor is sold out of that particular glass tile. I think I'm going to stick with the travertine (and yes, sandra, probably the mixed travertine!).

What occurs to me - okay this is a reach, but hear me out: the random brick has those cool sort of slanted, non-squared off edges. This reminds me of chinese calligraphy. The light fixture I purchased (after the much simpler-looking fixture I really wanted was out of stock) is kind of asian looking (see link below). So maybe it's serendipitous that I got this light fixture. Maybe it's all meant to go together. :-)

The tile store is delivering the tile, probably in about three weeks. (My reno starts two weeks from yesterday.)

Now I just need towel bars. And because I spent *way* too much time tile shopping, I need to get in-stock towel bars.

Are you me? Am I talking to myself? No, you can't be - I've finished my bathroom. Gosh you sound like me, though. You must be me!! Wow! I found me (shortest midlife crisis ever!)

Tracey- I love that light fixture by the way. It is similar to one I am thinking of (though honestly, I think yours is more interesting..)and finally a tile decision!!!! WAy to go. As I said previously, I don't think you could have made a mistake with ANY of the contenders. I did go back to your original post just to "re-familiarize" myself with the winner, and I can see why you picked it. I think you will be delighted with it. I looked at the link you gave, and of course I have not seen the stuff IRL or spent the time looking into it, but I thought that some of the borders they had in that line looked quite nice as well. (are they the ones you are thinking of or is it a different one with mixture of noce etc?).
Again I have not seen any of these IRL(except of course for the monocibec, daily:)but I did love the versailles one with those glass tiles that Blondell posted. However, it was my experience when I did my time looking for kitchen backsplash - I loved when I saw the glass tiles folks were posting on here, loved them in the stores... but when they came home with me... they stuck out not in the good way, but kind of like "why did she use them along with everything else?". I tried to find the specific ones in that post, and am not sure which ones they are because they are gorgeous and would consider using them as some sort of accent or border... but I think that what you are contemplating will be gorgeous, and RIGHT for you and your home. Enjoy the decision being made. (and sometimes, having a constraint like availability in a time frame is a good thing for indecisive types like myself and many others here).
    GREAT CHOICE!!!

Bradleyj, one of the things I love about these forums is finding I'm not alone in the world. There are *lots* of insane, obsessive, indecisive, and way-too-perfectionist people in the world. I think it's nice that we've all formed a support group. ;-)

So how did your bathroom turn out? What kind of tile did you use? (A *finished* bathroom - what a concept!)

Sheila, what light fixture are you thinking of? And what bathroom tile? (I adore your kitchen tile - that Monocibec stuff is crazy.)

Just for reference, here are the tiles I ended up choosing:

    Ilva Pietre Travertine Bianco

Random brick in mixed light & noce travertine - unenhanced (top), and "simulated enhanced" (with a wet sponge - bottom)

Actually wasn't crazy about the border that is part of the Ilva series. It's a mix of porcelain tile, real travertine tile (the smaller squares), and some sort of wood-looking porcelain tile (the dark tiles). I think putting porcelain and real stone together in a mosaic just points out how fake the porcelain is... and I do think the darker colors of the Ilva tile look much more fake than the Bianco.

At least this is looking at it up close. From a distance, it's a striking border. :-)

For the main tile, I'm using the 14x14's only: in a diagonal on the floor, and in a staggered pattern on the walls. Full-height tile in the shower/tub; half-height the rest of the bathroom. Border goes all the way around, with a second border in the shower/tub.

Looks pretty good when I mock it up in microsoft word. :-)

Anyway, I'm calmer today. So thanks, everyone!

I have that tile in my bathroom. I discovered something truly wonderful about it. My DH has a tendency to shed. The subtle pattern in the tile hides the dust bunnies so well, that the bathroom floor always looks clean and neat. I love it!

This is the fixture I have been liking for a long time. However I have not seen it in person and I am not clear as to what the shades look like. Very similar to yours, but I think yours has more interest... but just the same, since you asked, here you go.

Charlikin, I know I am posting 3 years later (not sure if you will even read this)...but I am considering Ilva Pietre Travertine (bianco or beige) for my bathroom floor. What grout color and grout space did you use? I believe these tiles are rectified? I was wondering if you posted final pics, I'd love to see how your project turned out. Are you happy with your choice? I'm going through what you went through a few years back :)
