I have a Broan chimney style hood that was around $400. Only started using it this past week, seems good, quiet, looks nice.

Costco has a great deal on a very nice Kobe hood. Kobe hoods get high marks on this forum for a lot of bang for the buck. It is also better to have baffle filters in your hood than mesh filters, but frequently only mesh filters are offered on lower-priced hoods. The hood at Costco, which is "Brillia by Kobe", has baffle filters. It has 4 speeds going from 200 cfm to 640 cfm which is nice flexibility because you can turn it down to low when you don't need lots of cfms, and not have as much noise. The high 640 cfms are available when you are frying steaks or the like.

I am linking it. I also like the looks, cause the corners are rounded, not sharp, so less head injuries just in case you bang into it! You can see people have posted reviews on the page too, and they look good.

I forgot to add to my previous post that you likely know that Costco has a great return policy. The hood also comes with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty, and if you read the reviews, a couple of people mention how great Kobe was with any problems that came up.

Check into Proline.
