Did those arches and columns replace a load bearing wall?

    yes they did. You can't see it very well in this picture but there is a vaulted ceiling coming down on the arch over the island. so those are structural posts

    I have a very small kitchen, 120" wall by 109"" wall in the kitchen ceiling height 8'. I would love to do the cherry cabinets with the post. I have a bearing wall also. Do you think the light cherry wood cabinets will be too dark for the space. The space will be completely open to the living & dinning rooms. large windows in adjoining room.

    Joanne I think the light cherry would be fine, just keep your other finishes light.
