miele vacuum problem

About a month ago I decided to treat myself and I bought the Miele Capricorn vacuum from a local Sew and Vac shop. I am amazed by the power of the vacuum and my carpet has never looked so good. Today while vacuuming the power head broke at the base of the wand. It just separated and only the wires were holding it together. I brought it back to the store and the sales girl said they most likely won't replace it they would try to fix it. My question is has anyone else had this problem and would you want a new power head since it is not even one month old? I was thinking it was a great investment and now I am questioning the quality of the vacuum. Thanks for your help

We have a new Miele vacuum too, and love it. We haven't had any problems so far, but I'd certainly want the power head replaced. If they just fix it, it might break again after the warranty expires. Talk to the manager about your warranty. Also Miele, if necessary.

Thanks I feel the same way about having them replace the power head. I am still waiting to hear what they decide. I hope it was just a defective power head, it did not break or crack it just came apart. I also love the vacuum. I brought out the old kenmore to finish the job when the Miele broke I could never go back!

Did you complete the warranty card and send it to Miele? If so they have it on file and you can check it via the web.

I would certainly want a new head and if the shop refused I would send an email to Miele.

I have the S5980? ...can't think of the name right now but it is black and silver and so far it seems to be a good machine.

I have the Capricorn model, as well. Have had it for a year, with no problems and it gets heavy use. Is this an authorized Miele dealer? I'd ensure it is authorized...then would ask what the repair entails, what their warranty is on repair, etc.

Yes I registered it online for the warranty and the shop is a authorized Miele dealer. I will find out tomorrow what they plan to do. The sales girl said they usually repair instead of replace so we will see what they say. I hope they will replace it if not I will cotact Miele and see what they say. Thanks for your help!

Well.. you know...I don't care what they usually do.

This thing is only a month old and I would not want a repaired part on it right off the bat.
I can see myself getting nasty about it. I agree certainly give Miele a call if the dealer gives agro about it.

I agree with jerrod. I have a Miele VC and have had it for well neigh 4 years now with nary a problem and yes, I too would never bother to go back to any of the myriad VC frogs I kissed before I found this prince among vacuum cleaners. Anyhow, my suggestion to you is thus: have you a Miele showrooms close to you? If so, could you go there and talk to the person there about the very VC and the very head and whatnot? They don't really seem to want to get into either the sales or the support game BUT imo they are very forthright about what you can expect, who to talk to etc. They are not a dealer and so it is not their headache to intercede on your behalf which means that they aren't motivated to get you to take the path of least resistance. These guys just genuinely want to make happy customers - both before and after a sale. Such has been my experience with them both with BOTH my VC purchases as well as my W/D purchase as well as the general inquiries I made there reviewing other appliances (of which we didn't necessarily buy a Miele). IMO, these folks can direct you to the correct port of call - as in the phone number or sometimes even the person to talk to.

Good luck. I don't know what a Capricorn is but given my experience with my Solaris (old model now), you'll like it very much.
